England's coaching and management structure Empty England's coaching and management structure

So the RWC was a huge disappointment and the reviews suggest that at least in part the coaching team's right hand didn't know what the left hand was doing.

My suspicion over the last few years was always that there was a fundamental flaw in the coaching hierarchy - how does a specialist forwards coach co-ordinate with both an attack coach and a defence coach, and when there is a disagreement, whose thoughts win out?

At least with MJ and Smith gone and Wells apparently going (Ford appears to be staying as defence coach until at least after the 6Ns, in support of a temporary head coach from within the current RFU hierarchy), what structure should we adopt for the next batch of England management?

Personally, I think we should have:
1 - A team manager, who is the overall strategist and media face, but is mainly a 'hands off' type (so wouldn't suit a retires flanker then Wink ) - This is almost the role Woodward did through the late 90s and 00s anyway.

2 - Head coach. His role is to implement the strategy of the manager and to have primary responsibility for selection and for management of the coaching / training sessions.

3 - Specialist coaches for attack and defence. Simple division, with one considering what to do when we have the ball and the other for when we haven't.

Onviously there will still be a few lower level specialists such as Rowntree as the scrum coach and a conditioning coach. Not sure that a kicking coach should really be required at the international level - it appears that Aldred's input to Flood's kicking game has only led to confusion over technique (not meant as a slight against Dave Aldred, who has a great reputation, but more questioning whether kicking coaching should be left at club level).

Oh, and of course Rob Andrew's role needs a little revision 0 I'm thinking defensive coach for the women's under-18s 7s team

Any thoughts?
