Dolph Zigglers World Heavyweight Title Reign

Thought I would give this its own topic as I see people all the time saying he only had the title for 10 mins / 20 mins / 1 hour or whatever. And in the words of Peter Griffin its one of those things that really grinds my gears lol!!!

Dolph Ziggler was actualy the WHC for a week! A whole week!! I will explain below and please correct me if Im wrong.

Vickie Guerrero who was assistant general manager of Smackdown made Edge defend his belt to Ziggler. A stipulation was added that if Edge used the spear, Ziggler would win the match and claim the title. This may have been a stupid stip, but an official one. Just like when Christian had the stip in the match with Randy Orton, where if Orton got DQ'd Christian got the strap. So in the match, with the referee down, Edge blatantly used the spear. Guerrero saw him do it, but with the ref down, he couldnt ring the bell. So Edge brings out some guy from the Green Bay Chicago Yankees or some sort of American football team to "make the count". Now this of course bought a good reaction from the crowd and it finshed with them both posing in the ring etc, but officially with that spear, Ziggler became the WHC.

Fast forward the next week on Smackdown. Edge is still carrying the physical title, so Guerrero quite rightly takes it off him and puts it round Zigglers waist. Teddy Long then comes out and makes a rematch later that night. Edge wins the belt back and all is well and good again. I think the mistake most people make is presuming Dolph was only officially champ when the belt was put round his waist, but thats not true. He actually held it for a whole week which was longer than the reigns of Big Show, Christian, Kane and some others which I cant think of right now.

Anyway, rant over lol!!!!

Just had a look on WWE.com's title histories, and it says that Ziggler won the belt on the same day as he lost it to Edge. Sorry, but it seems Ziggler's reign was only a few minutes after all!

Nah they are wrong. They havent quite thought about it themselves. Im sure if I sent my rant over to them they would change it. If not I would like them to explain how the title only changes hands once the superstar has the belt physically on their waist. That person becomes champion once the match ends.

Stars such as Mark Henry and Big Show cant even fit the belts round their waist so does that mean they have never been champs?

Yeah I see what you mean, looks like WWE haven't really thought about it though.

Thats an error right there then. How can you possibly explain (and this is not a dig at you gaffer) him not being officially recognised as a champ until a week later. It makes no sense...

Because its not real and they expect you to take a leap of fatih everynow and then for sake of a story.

I still believe he was champ for a week and I will take that belief to the grave with me dammit!!!!!!!!!!

It was still a reign longer than 1 and a half hours, based on being crowned Champion at the start of a two hour show and losing at the end of the two hour show.

Big Show's reign was 45 seconds

When it boils down to it, does it really matter?

It was still a terrible reign and a waste of time from the WWE, who should have just kept the belt on Edge if they were planning on giving Dolph the title in the weakest way possible and then having him job to Edge in the main event of Smackdown anyway.

Oh yeah I agree. I just like things to be officialised. Which is why all this rubbish with the WWE title when CM Punk and John Cena both had it really annoyed me lol. Did Mysterios reign count? When Punk won at MITB did that make him a 2 time WWE champion or not?

I think there are some things which are best left alone, otherwise there would be so many more problems in the WWE right now.

there has been instances in the past, Hulk Hogan's fifth reign while being officially recognised, he was later stripped of the title for using an illegal tactic, the length of his reign still stood until they took the title off him, same applies with Edge

I think Vickie also made Undertaker hand back the strap for using Hell's Gate, the date vacated wasn't from the date he used Hell's Gate in the match, it was from the night it was taken from him
