I haven't seen it yet, but apparently he was very 'Dusty Rhodes'?

From what I’ve heard its due to him complaining backstage about not debuting so they’ve given him the lamest gimmick possible.

It's a far cry from the vignettes.

I must say, I actually like it too, for me it's far more interesting than the generic monster heel push, it looks like they've given his character a personality which is what they've not been doing for years

Be interesting to see it. Sounds like there is an element of Dude Love in there as well?

Re: Brodus Clay
Definitely, Dude Love was my initial thought but when he got in the ring he acted very Dusty Rhodes like
I said on the other thread, he's been likened to Rhodes, Dude Love, Godfather and Rakishi, hardly a bunch of curtain jerking jobbers, not everyone can be the main man so being likened to that bunch for your first night isn't bad going

That's a great point gaff. When I watched it, I couldn't believe it. To be fair, I enjoyed it but did not see that coming at all hahahahaha

Wasn't Johnny L known as Funk Man at some point - any link to that? It was rather bemusing to see though he did look to have some charisma in the ring

I quite liked it tbh... as it's been said, a least this guy have a bit of character & personality. Kids will like him, but he can always go back to being the monster once he turns heel. Still Time. Plus it was great to see Curt Hawkins on Raw this week.

Re: Brodus Clay
I think the gimmick has more potential as a face. He can be the monster face that comes down to shut up loud mouth heels. Wouldnt get him far but could get him over.

On the plus side its great to see an old school gimmick wrestler, a throw back of sorts, reminds me of the godfather tbh.

As its been mentioned, different from the typical heel monster which rarely seems to work anyways! I quite enjoyed it, very godfather, dusty rhodes like. Add a few 'funky' promos and it could be quite a decent gimmick!

Stupid its simply stupid. Im not a fan of the guy anyway but they could of made him fairly decent as a heel body guard of somesort.

Im sorry nick i cant agree with you, im so bored of the generic based heels and the vanilla faces that are produced recently that seeing someone displaying some charisma, fun and character is far more entertaining than, diesel mark two. A bodyguard would be the obvious choice and as ridiculous as a funk character sounds on paper im actually pleasantly surprised by clays re-debut

Re: Brodus Clay
I thought it was great too after the initial surprise, definitely reminded me of rikishi more than anyone. My concern is that rikishi was never really taken seriously as a heel after his time in too cool. It was suggested that he could just become a monster heel later but I wouldn't say that was guaranteed
Even Mark Henry seems to get Sexual Chocolate chants fairly regularly and that was 12 years ago

Who is returning at Wrestlemania?
Cue the Raw after Miami

I tell you what, as someone has speculated above, if this was a punishment on clay then it has backfired badly. youtube is loving it!

What a return! Brodus "The Funkasaurus" Clay, and he looked like he was loving it as well.
Re: Brodus Clay
I'd loved how he was talking whilst wrestling.
I'm sure he said 'suplex' and 'my bad'
i thought it was quite funny .
At least he can get his personality across and he won't be generic.

Absolutely loved this!
He seriously has bucked the trend and I think it is hugely refreshing to see. I also liked how he was mic'd in the ring so his talking could be heard.
Great stuff!

Re: Brodus Clay
This character has got WAY more potential than if he'd come in as the generic monster who threatens to destroy everyone in his path until he either jobs to John Cena or WWE lose interest in him before that.
I don't know if this was a punishment or if WWE didn't want another monster heel on RAW alongside Kane but Brodus looked like he was having a blast in there so if the guy's got a personality then let him show it.

Indeed Y2D2, they should totally have him acknowledge that. Maybe get Cee-Lo green to perform his theme at wrestlemania!

I concur!
And I'm singing his theme right now. The dog's looking at me funny. I'll have to introduce him to the Funkasaurus.

are you gutted that the WWE stole the Jefferson Impact gimmick and gave it to Brodus?

My sources tell me that Jefferson Impact will have approximately 73% more Funk in his gimmick than Brodus Clay.

Watched it like 5 times now. Love it. He looked great in the ring. I loved it when he called the suplex. This kind of squash match is exactly what he needed on his re-debut.

I watched it 3 times, so good. It's different, he will stand out, has a gimmick that is his own and not just another monster heel type AND he still got the squash victory.
My bad! My new favourite catchphrase.
He will be in the final 6 of the Rumble.

It was an absolutely superb moment - and far from a burial.
Best debut in a long, long time. And far more entertaining than Jericho's return.
He, and WWE with the misleading build-up, have played it to perfection
