Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
Interested in peoples thoughts as to who has had the hardest run of fights since 2000, considering what sort of form their opponents were in at the time and not just the name.
Obviously the most recent one that springs to mind is Carl Froch having 5-6 title fights back to back over world class oppositon, just would like to see anyone else who could rival that over the past decade or so?
Also on how they performed against them, losing 5 fights in a row is not what I am after but as in Frochs case he faired well in all but perhaps the Ward fight where he was outclassed.

Re: Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
Carl froch has had the toughest run of fights for me, 7 world class opponents in a row is not equalled by anyone else in the sport since 2000 IMO.
Victor Ortiz has gone through a tough run recently peterson, berto, may, berto
Glen Johnson the road warrior, he has had Bute, Dawson x2 Cloud, Froch, Green (ok Green aint great), but still, he isn't called the road warrior for nothing.
truth is, if you get a fighter who has had 3/4 tough fights out of 6, chances are they are worth a shout

Re: Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
Got to be Pacquiao really.
Between 2004-2008 he faced MAB x 2, Marquez x 2, Morales x 3 as well some other decent contenders.
Frochs opponents are a little infalted. Abraham and Johnson werent actually all that good really. Taylor was slightly shopworn.
I think the likes of Pacquiao, de la Hoya and Hopkins can all boast better sequences

When the title said 'Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?' I naturally assumed that we were going to judge fighters from the year 2000 and not just since 2007 to suit a certain fighters agenda

Re: Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
I presumed they meant 2000 was the cut off point and it was intended to look at fight streaks within the period 2000-present.
Either way, Froch probably wouldnt make my top 5. Pacquiao, Mayweather, Hopkins, de la Hoya, Morales, MAB, Marquez, Cotto - these guys would have similar or better claims for me.

I didnt JUST put Froch but his run is impressive and current and he is British, so obviously it springs to mind. Now i will add some more to Appease your tiny mind.
Cotto had a tough set
Pac had a tough set until lately
Oscar was a fighting champ.

I havent overlooked anyone I said the most recent to compare against, I hadnt picked anyone he was simply offered up as an example. Try and take more care reading and there is no agenda behind this either, I thought with all the repetitive threads we have had recently I might try and spark a different debate.

I wasnt referring to you so much anyway. I was just making that point that if it is going to be from 2000 then we really do need to look all the way back there
It is a good thread though so thanks for posting it

Re: Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
Is the point not to look at sequences that have occured since 2000? As opposed to looking at entire fight lists since that date. I dont think anyone is daft enough to include Frochs fights from before world level as part of his sequence so I think the suggestion was to look at tough fights that happened back to back in streaks rather than entire careers.

Off the top of my head (may have missed out a fight or two),
Hopkins has : de la Hoya, Eastman, Taylor x 2, Tarver, Wright, Calzaghe, Pavlik back to back.
Pacquiao: MAB, JMM, Morales, Velasquez, Morales, Solis, Morales, Larrios, MAB back to back.
de la Hoya: Campas, Vargas, Mosely, Sturm, Hopkins, Mayorga, Mayweather, Forbes, Pacquiao back to back.
Morales: Chavez, MAB, Pacquiao, Raheem, Pacquaio x 2, Diaz
Those four are tough to beat. Mayweather, MAB, JMM, Cotto, Froch honourable mentions.

My only issue with Mosley's run would be the number of losses in there, realise a couple come when he was long in the tooth but DLH aside which was a stellar win certainly first time the rest of the guys he has managed to beat tend to fall into the category of good rather than great

Re: Who has had the best run and fights since 2000?
Floyd Mayweather by a country mile!!!
Victor Ortiz - After Pacquiao dodged Floyd Mayweather again...Mayweather fought the next best guy at 147 and a top 10-15 pound for pounder coming off a career best win against Andre Berto.
Shane Mosley - Fought the welterweight champion and was rated top 5 pound for pound coming off one of his best wins of his career against Margarito...Some people said Mosley never looked as good as he did in the Margarito fight.
Juan Manuel Marquez - Faced the number 2 or 3 in the world after a near 2 year absence...The best mexican of his era.
Ricky Hatton - A prime and undefeated top 10 pound for pounder
Oscar De La Hoya - Fought the legend WBC light middleweight champion...Who was fit and healthy...not weight drained and Mayweather was the underdog.
Carlos Baldomir - Fought the welterweight champion and had not lost in 8 years at the time so was prime and ready.
Zab Judah - Fought the 2nd best welterweight at the time
Sharmba Mitchell - Beat a former world champion, fighting at a new weight for first time.
Arturo Gatti - Beat the WBC light welterweight champion coming into the fight in the best form of his career.
Beat respected world champions in Hernandez, Chavez, Vargas and Corley.
Faced solid contenders like Augustus, Ndou, Sosa and Bruseles.
Beat a great lightweight and top 10 p4p in Castillo...Faced the beast Corrales who was also rated top 10 p4p and considered a major underdog.

Despite over rating the value of Mayweathers opposition beyond recognition he would also have to be my pick, aside from the first Castillo fight has been fighting top class fighters without looking like losing.
