So England turn around their test form in spectacular style, by unexpectedly whitewashing Pakistan 4-0 in the ODI series. Stars for England were Cook, Finn, and a reborn Kevin Pietersen. Here are my player ratings:

England
Cook 9.5: superb series for the skipper, back-to-back hundreds in the first two games where others struggled, 80 in the third. He also captained the side very well, ruthlessly honing in when England exposed the tail in the second ODI and in general his bowling changes were good too.
Pietersen 9: scratchy first knock, the second was a bit better but then he exploded into form, with two magnificent back-to-back hundreds. The first was KP back to his swash-buckling best, smashing the bowlers all over the park, while the second was a more measured knock, superbly guiding England home in a tricky chase under lights when the top order failed.
Trott 3: poor series for the Warwickshire player. Got a good googly he failed to read in the first game, but in his other two innings rather threw away some useful starts. Not the quickest in the field, but took his catches and a fine arm.
Bopara 7.5: did his job well, with two fifties in two innings, and chipped in with a few (largely unthreatening) overs. Would have been nice had he pushed on in the first one, but one shouldn't be overly critical. Improved in the field.
Morgan 6.5: started the series looking all at see, but produced a couple of decent unbeaten 20s in the next two games. Looked pretty good in the final innings before missing a straight ball. Superb in the field.
Kieswetter 6: looked ill at ease in his new role at first, but a very good supporting knock in the final game. Keeping was better than in India, with the stumping of Umar Akmal in the first game a particularly sharp bit of work, but still missed a few chances.
Patel 6.5: did well with the bat in his two innings, and bowled generally pretty tidily while picking up some useful wickets. Fielding much improved, though he still looks like he's running through treacle.
Broad 6.5: not great in the first two games, though not terrible either, but after a poor first over in the third he turned it around in fine fashion. Turning into a very fine bowler indeed.
Swann 6.5: bowled very well in the first game, and was good in a containing role thereafter. Never let Pakistan get on top of him. Sprightly knock with the bat and fielded well.
Anderson 7: Bowled well mostly, though sometimes struggled to control the new ball, chipped in with vital wickets at important times, gets an extra half mark for his fielding which really is superb for a fast bowler.
Finn 9.5: England's man of the series IMO. Has added some pace and more importantly accuracy since being dropped from the test side, and Pakistan couldn't cope. Finished with 13 wickets for just 134 runs in 40 overs, outstanding.
Buttler 2: hard to know how to rate him, was undone second ball by Ajmal but hardly the first who that has happened to. One blemish aside, fielded well.
Briggs 8: very impressed by Briggs on his debut, varied his pace and flight very nicely indeed, seems to have a very good cricketing brain, and never let Pakistan dominate him. Put himself about very well in the field too, making some fine saves in the deep. One for the future.
Dernbach 8: Has undoubtedly improved since poor series in India. Uses less variations now and bowls much more stock balls. Still a tendency to stray in line, but picked up four wickets, his best return in ODIs.
Bresnan 6: looked understandably rusty but chipped in with key wicket, gains a mark for superb catch off Afridi.

Pakistan
Hafeez 2: no wickets and didn't look threatening with the ball, a couple of starts without cashing in, and not a particularly good fielder either. Poor series for him.
Fahrat 4: made a good start in the second game only to brainlessly run himself out, got out in familiar fashion in the other two innings. Not sure he's international standard TBH.
Azhar Ali 6: good starts in most matches, but needs to work on his ODI game, and work out his scoring areas. England found him too easy to contain.
Asad Shafiq 5: a lovely knock in the last game but should have made a hundred.
Younus Khan 1: no runs in the two games he played, and when he's not fielding at slip he's pretty average.
Umar Akmal 4: such a frustrating cricketer. All the talent in the world, but too often throws it all away. Did produce one fifty, and probably Pakistan's best fielder, which makes it all the more baffling they threw him the gloves when he's not an international standard keeper by any stretch of the imagination.
Misbah-ul-Haq 4: a couple of decent knocks with the bat but struggles to really step on the accelerator when needed, resulting in a defeat and a sub-par total. Dreadful shots in the other two games. Very ordinary captaincy, was way too defensive, never put England under sustained pressure, loses a mark for that.
Shoiaib Malik 4: looked like he didn't want to be there in his first outing, and was building a good knock in his second before throwing his wicket away.
Shahid Afridi 5: mixed return for Boom Boom, brainless shot could well have cost Pakistan the second game, before a measured fifty gave them a chance in the third. His bowling went downhill as the series went on.
Adnan Akmal 4: much better keeper than his brother, but not sure his batting is up to scratch, dismal knock in game 3. Loses a mark for unnecessary spat with Pietersen over review.
Abdul Rehman 3: bowled OK without ever looking that threatening, but why Pakistan consider him the best batsman of their tail-enders is a mystery, dismal innings in the second game cost Pakistan dearly.
Umar Gul 1: gets that for his batting, his bowling was dire, he looked tired and uninterested.
Ajmal 8: Pakistan's player of the series by some margin, fine spell in the first game gave his team a sniff and England never got on top of him, though they did play him better than in the tests. Ended with 10 wickets at a shade under 20.
Cheema 2: bowled OK at the death, though England never really went for him, but was generally poor with the new ball, never found the control that England's seam bowlers did.
Junaid Khan 2: good first spell, but rubbish at the death, I'm pretty sure anyone should be able to work out that banging the ball in half-way down to someone who's scored a century isn't a good idea. Rubbish in the field.

What do you think?

Afridi the same as KP seems a bit generous to Afridi I think cf. And not too sure what Younus did to deserve 5 (same as Anderson who did pick up a few wickets).

im staggered at how well we done in this series...under captain cook we are starting to take steps forward, and eventually start climbing up the rankings.
