the big summer angle

this was posted on a wrestling rumour website this morning

CM Punk's surprise heel turn at Monday's RAW 1,000 was the big "summer storyline" that WWE has been planning for quite some time. Previous summer angles have included Vince McMahon's limo blowing up, the formation of Nexus and CM Punk's "pipe bomb" promo from last year.

really? really? really? how is it a big angle? it took creative "quite some time" to think of this? this? they couldnt think of anything bigger than a punk heel turn? how is it a big summer angle if it's something that happens to kane every week? how are we meant to be shocked at a punk heel turn when now we all know that he is only a heel so that the rock gets the extra few cheers from 10 more people when he beats the big evil cm punk at royal rumble so that rock can then lose it to pebble oops sorry cena at wrestlemania 29 in a 2nd once in a lifetime match?

is anyone else annoyed at creative who's real names are miss piggy and darth vader being sat round a big round table with a coffee mug in their hand with no coffee in it thinking hmmmm what could we do this year? it needs to be big i know lets make punk a heel...oh my thats brilliant how do you think of these things....ahhhhhhh. anyway what do you guys/girls think of this huge "summer angle"?

Most of the stories ive read say that the turn at the end of Raw1000 was the start of the big summer angle, so i think you should reserve judgment until Monday.

I like the idea tbh

Of course turning the face champion, who in a lot of arenas is the most popular guy. It is a big storyline because this is the beginning of his run as a heel.

If CM Punk turning heel was the catalyst for the big Summer angle then it's all good with me

Sounds like a big summer angle to me, I don't get why people are already passing judgement over this saying it's awful, when all that has happened is Punk clotheslining Rock, who knows this might be a really good storyline we can all sink our teeth into.

To be honest this has lived up to that age old tagline of "anything can happen in the WWE" I look forward to seeing how this pans out. Fans these days seem to complain to much about what will happen and the future, rather than enjoying the moment.

But maybe I'm just optimistic about how this goes.

It could be good but do we expect the Rock to be present this week or will it be a storyline dropped until Rock can be back to give the WWE some time.

CM Punk had started to lose his edge as face, hopefully he'll get back to his pipe bomb dropping ways.

As far as Im concerned, the glass smashed at RAW1K. It wasnt Stone Cold however, it was Punk smashing the glass ceiling to bits. Standing tall over Cena and the Rock as WWE Champion on the 1000th episode of RAW means more than nearly anything in the business.

I'm looking forward to seeing Punk being a heel. I hope he has as much freedom as possible to drop more pipe bombs and be a proper heel and isn't booked as a cowardly, sneaky heel.

He will be like scsa. Anti-hero!! Probably lead to a match between the two.


If rocky beats punk at rr,how he be champ til mania if he don't appear every week?

i have been thinking of this but heres a shot.

how about if at the RR in the title match a stable helps Punk cheat and beat the rock? this way Punk looks good and rocky gets the title on the grandest stage of them all?

that does depend on who wins the RR if its a smackdown guy it could work? or maybe the rock enters and wins it after he is cheated out of the title?

Like the second option of Rock looses to Punk but wins the Rumble.

If they let Punk and Rocky at each other on the mics then this will be the most exciting feud for a long time, if they don't and pull a Cena vs Rock where the current employer is protected then it will fail.

Give those two the freedom they need and this feud will be promo gold

Can't see Punk being protected in the same way Cena was. In fact I can see WWE asking Punk to go easy on the Rock!!

I really hope you're right Y2D2 but this is the WWE we are talking about and I wouldn't put it past them sadly

Does anyone else think heyman and lesnar may side with Punk?

However it turns out, I'm lookin forward to hearing punk explain this one. I just hope he doesnt do the straight edge means I am better stchik that would be gash!

Rock doesn't need to be present, surely that's the whole point of Punk's grudge

Captain - I dont think thats a bad idea at all..

The thing for me is that im hoping the Punk turn is just a piece of the puzzle with regards to the big summer angle...on it's own I dont think its that big a deal.

I would like to see that Tag Match at SS...if they did the angle as Lesnar/Punk/Cena/Rock you could then actually avoid repeating the 'once in a lifetime' match at next years Wrestlemania.

You could have Punk beat The Rock at RR (I don't think Rock would mind putting him over)...perhaps Punk retains with some help from Lesnar or something....

Then you have Cena win the RR and obviously challenge Punk at Mania...leaving Brock to meet Rock.....

My FEAR however is that the Punk turn has been done for one reason only. Since Wrestlemania WWE have been attempting to get the fans back on side of Mr Superman and to a degree it has worked...I would certainly say their has been a decrease in boo's levelled at him.

They have done this by putting him in feuds with Genuine Heels and monster heel's and whilst he has gone over them all, he has had to 'take a beating' to do so...

I think they are desperate to put the strap back on him but to do so they need a heel holding the Belt...at the moment Punk is/was a face...and even after Monday's events their is no guarantee the turn is complete (I think he will get a Tweener reception next week)....therefore I think the WWE will pull the trigger on something to make him fully heel....

Then BOOM title back on Cena at the next opportunity and WWE norm is re-established....

I hope that isn't the case but I have a sneeky feeling it could be.

That is so true. They will have some difficulty turning him completely heel. I don't think its the wrestling aspect mind because he can easily change his mannerisms....for instance:

When he does the running knee into the corner and salutes the crowd he can just mock them instead...etc etc. Even if he just went to the top rope to do the elbow drop...raised his hands like he usually does but then just steps off the turnbuckle and laughs at the crowd...stuff like that would generate heat.

The explanation of why he did what he did is key to getting him over and I cant see anyway of doing it without part (most likely the adults) of the crowd siding with him...

They certainly can't have him go the root of 'sick of being in Cena's shadow even when I have the Belt' route because it's true....

They could perhaps go back to the straight edge gimmick...im better in an arrogant way, but that's been done...don't think the crowd would be all that fussed for it...and in a sense he would be right because he is lol!

Yeh struggling to see how they turn him heel...

And no cool t-shirts either! In fact, no merchandise whatsoever!

Just have him come out with no music and with the help of some of WWE'S editing they can sound some boos in. Punk can sit in the ring silently for about 15mins, then have him walk out go to adverts. Job done

Damn even when you put it like that bret it sounds better than about 95% of the rest of their shows.

He will have to get rid of all his tattoos, infact give him some generic speedos and we'll hate him

he'll need to start wearing suits aswell, and will need to trim off that beard.

Of course he will never beat anyone clean from now on, which meens lots of DQs and countouts.

In regards to Punk going heel I do think they may struggle to keep him heel and it may end up being a Austin WM17 if they aren't careful.

Has Punk really turned Heel ? by that i meen isn't it more who his opponent is as to whether Punk is seen as a Face or a Heel
