Olympics Day 2

Day 2 - will we get our first medal? Adlington goes in the 400m freestyle and the hockey comps kick off today.

Hockey has just kicked off, as has badminton.

At HT in the hockey , NZ lead Aus 1-0. Denmark through in the archery. Watching archery and judo at the minute.

Morning all, I'm still buzzing after attending the beach volleyball last night

A few thoughts
-I turned up at 6.20 (official advice was 6.30 for an 8pm session), which meant a pretty short queue at security, and everyone in security was smailing - completely unlike an airport!
-being that early meant a short queue for the really overprieced food/drink (though food quality was better than most sports events I've been too. The 20-person queue I joined was over 100 by the time I was served
-a really good stadium. I had cat B tickets, but it looked like a good view all around court. Only downer was the nearly empy VIP seats, and the rows of empty media seats
-some pretty good sport. The Brazil vs Norway mens match was superb, the Switzerland vs Greece womens had it's moments, while the USA vs Aus womens was epic. The South African men got blown away by the yanks though
-entertainment in breaks was pretty good. I got a good chuckle from the volunteers sweeping the sand doing so to the Benny Hill theme. Only downer was the announcers trying too hard when they didn't need to. Personally Mexican waves should not be started by an announcer, nor should we be told how to shout "ole" after they play that jangly sound*. The Scottish match caller was good value though, real passion for the sport.


*minor rant, does anyone know where that "ole" chant started. And why are lots of sports going jumping on the bandwagon for it - I've seen it a rugby (in both hemispheres), cricket, basketball, netball and beach volleyball.

GB women in the archery now, Sophie Cox in the judo.

GB's mixed doubles Badminton pair are out. Joanna Parker of GB has also lost in the table tennis.

We have just been stuffed by Rusiia

6 and 4 were the killers there.

Added to the elimination from the women's team archery, our men have just lost the first set in the volleyball to Bulgaria.

Only on TV sadly. I did have a beach volleyball ticket for this afternoon, but sold it to a girl at work. I applied for 10 different tickets, across 7 sports, and got 2 beach volleyball back - vagaries of the ticket draw.

But, we beat the Aussies

I appled for 12 didnt get 1- and now see empty seats- am gutted in fairness- might just go down there one day and see if I can get a ticket to something

adlington looked good but the next heat 3 swimmers smashed her time!!

Doesn't matter. All you have to do is make a final. From there it's a completely different game

Adlington was so far ahead she was barely trying in the last 50. She'll go well in the final.

Surprise win that for Colin Oates but well done to him. China have just picked up gold medal number five for them in the 10m air pistol.

Starting now is Colin Oates' QF in the Judo.

Colin Oates has lost 1-0 in the judo QF. Fantastic effort by him to get to the quarters though.

About 2 and a half hours left in the women's road race, all 4 British women are right in the thick of it and still have hopes of a medal.

In fairness, Pooley is riding a great race

Vos is another level though and wont tire that easily

How long is left? More or less than 90 minutes?

Apparently less, around an hour and a quarter.

Oh. That's pretty tight for time on me going for my run.

Jaysus, if Vos and Pooley pull away, they will be very difficult to reel in
