Olympics, Day 7

Getting this up early as I'm off soon.

A great day for us yesterday as we won three golds, taking our score to 5. We now sit 5th in the medal table and with any luck could sit in 3rd by the day is out.

The main event starts today as well, with the athletics kicking off at 10 with Jess Ennis.

AND COME ON ALAN CAMPBELL!

Why does Ian Thorpe say "we" when talking about British athletes?

Have the Aussies disowned him?

That 100m hurdles effort was simply awesome. I wonder if she'll take that event up full time?

She is British record holder in high jump and 100m hurdles now, her 200m is not bad either.

Some unnecessary removals there I think Crimey. Gibbo knows he is a nutter like and is constantly reminded of it! We love him for it, don't think you needed to remove some of them.

Yeah, thought that might happen there. Ennis is a fantastic athlete and best of luck to her and Katerina (and all the other athletes) tomorrow.

I basically removed any that were part of the conversation, without the context of the others they looked totally odd.

It wasn't because I thought they were offensive to any user, just not suitable for the forum.

To be fair, once certain things were removed, may as well err on the side of caution

hope she gets gold, i will be honest I didnt know anything about her!!

Not strong in the LJ or Jav but I'd bet on her being close second or third come the final event and she will own the 800 looking at the current standings

She'll be ahead come the 800, she's too far ahead. She's an excellent long jumper and a solid javelin thrower.

Not so much recently?

At what? Her Javelin PB was a few weeks ago and she's been around her LJ best this year.

She only needs 6.45 and 46 to be well ahead for the 800. She's capable of 6.60 and 51 tomorrow.

Her javelin lost her the last World Championships?!

And Chernova, down the rankings though she is, is a strong second day player and better than Ennis at LJ and javelin

She's been great this year though. No reason why she shouldn't be tomorrow. She's also much further ahead this time.

True, Chernova has had a poor start and Ennis has been great. I think she'll win gold but I don't think she'll cruise to it

I already called it earlier in the thread anyway, if I was Paddy Power I would have already paid out.

We're having a lawn bowls drought as well... but Chinese Memberships are up so watch this space.

Helen Jenkins huh... 1 of the favourites for Triathlon Gold just gave up about 800 metres from the end when in contention... yep she's British through and through..

It isn't just Ian Thorpe that is doing this. John McEnroe and Michael Johnson are doing this as well. Anyway if the Aussies have disowned him, he is more than welcome to come to represent our country as we badly need swimmers who can actually win swimming Gold Medals.

No - Thorpey has disowned them. Look, he's a good lad.

NI sure could use someone of that calibre. They're a pretty hopeless lot of underachievers aren't they?

Have you ever won the Olympic pentathlon? No.

Australia has won a fair few more Gold medals than NI... like about 130 more!
