The Tassie 2012
It's here, my favourite week of my golfing year has arrived. Looks like I might finally get a dry one as the weather looks decent although a bit breezy for the whole week.
Will squeeze in a practice round on the Burnside this afternoon, then it's the Championship practice round tomorrow 7.56. Quite happy with the draw this year, 1st group out on the Burnside Monday and 10.30 on the championship course Tuesday.
Expectations? No, had been in reasonable form but made a complete hash of club champs last week so its a bit up in the air as to how it'll turn out so I'll take it as it comes. Target is qualifying for the scratch matchplay (missed on countback last year) and a cut in at least one of the medal rounds would be nice. Realistically I'd probably be more dangerous in the handicap matchplay.
Making the most of the trip this year as well, looking to play Kingsbarns next Sat (assuming I don't have a matchplay semi to deal with). Sat evening i'll be travelling up to Aberdeen to take in 2 or 3 nice wee courses up there over a few days.
Let the fun commence

Good luck Jas.
Weather looks pretty good for the week.
Our famer neighbours are contractors. They are working 24 hour days getting the barley crop in. Saved at the last minute by some decent weather.

All the best for the week...
Just played the burnside and championship courses last week. Both great tracks and may look at trying to get into tassie next year if at all possible.

Cheers Doon, missed my warm up round at Belleisle this year It showed yesterday when I shot 79 round the Burnside...better pleased by 82 round the Championship today (inept putting cost me mid 70s). Always think I take at least a round to get the long drive up out my swing.
Generally pleased with the way the practice rounds have gone and the fact that the wind is going to be pretty much from the same direction during the 2 medal days.
Sand...2nd Monday in Jan...7.00pm....www.carnoustiegolflinks.co.uk by 5 past 7 the 350 spaces are gone!
Looks like the Burnside has had a bit of a tidy-up this year, I do love it anyway as I've shot a good number on it but even so quite impressed by the condition of both.

Re: The Tassie 2012
Nope, bloody disaster Nice steady opening hole the a big pull off the 2nd, lost ball, reload and a chop up the rough for a 8. Steadied the ship for a few holes before another big pull hook on 7, got away with a double. Just can't get away with missing fairways when the rough is the way it is at the moment.
There were some highlights though, stiffed a 9 iron to about 3ft to birdie the par 3 9th, always difficult to reach then stop in a good 2-3 club wind downwind. Also birdied 18 after almost driving it again with 3wood. 82 however is NOT what the doctor ordered and I'll struggle to even make the handicap matchplay now

a shame - still at least you can just go out and enjoy the championship course without worrying too much about your score.

Re: The Tassie 2012
Not having a good week at all, Tuesday was ahem, breezy!! That's 3 years in a row I've played the Championship medal round in a stiff wind. Didn't start well and got a few bad breaks as well. It was Hogans (the 6th) before I got a par, was settling down a bit then took a bloody 8 at the 12th, game over ended with a 91, missed the scratch by miles missed the hcp by 3. Hit some memorable shots but far far too many mistakes.
In the consolation stableford yesterday i had what was my worst ever round here...or anywhere for that matter, just couldn't do a thing right. I had 1 solitary par, ironically on my nemesis hole the day before...the 12th.
Not holding out much hope for the Burnside consolation today as the wind's due to get up this afternoon.
Got my other rounds all booked now, not a bad wee itinery...
Friday Championship course again
Sat Kingsbarns
Sun Rest
Mon Trumps
Tues Royal Aberdeen

That's some collection of courses Jas, don't let Mac hear you are playing Trump though, he'll have you struck down.
Let me know if you have a spare slot at Kingsbarns on Saturday. I'm down that way and free all day.
