Not sure if anyone has posted about this as i can't be bothered to look down the list but Red Dwarf is returning back to our screens, what are everyones thoughts on this? me personally I can't wait, i've been a massive Dwarf fan from the 1st Series all the way up to Back to Earth, with this and now Bottom confirmed as coming back for a new series, proper old school comedy is back!!!!!

Looking forward to it, albeit tentatively. Back to Earth wasn't great, but I've liked the vast majority of episodes from other series.
Any idea when it starts?

Ace! love Red Dwarf. I prefer the series's 1-4 as the later ones just seemed to lack something. I enjoyed Back to Earth but will be watching the new series with slight trepidation. I hope its good!
Can't wait for new Bottom! as well.

New Red Dwarf & Hooligan's Island (Bottom) has made me happy. Finally, some proper comedy on tv and not another shoite reality show

Red Dwarf is one of my all-time favourite shows. The number of belly laughs declined a bit after series 6 when Rob Grant left the writing team (before that Doug Naylor largely did the plots and Grant the gags), but it'll still be a lot better than most

Used to love it, but I feel they've left it way too long. Back to Earth was not really up to previous scratch and didn't they leave series 8 on a cliffhanger? Are they just by-passing series 9 in order to avoid continuing the storyline?

Series 3 & 4 were my favourites when Kryten became a regular.

Rimmer and Cat pushing Lister down a hill in a wheelbarrow whilst Kryten waves at them with a rolling pin in his hands?

I thought Season 8 was brilliant. Some awesome gags in that, plus the return of Holly at the back end of season 7

I think this could be the last series so enjoy it while it lasts. The last episode is titled The Beginning, which could be a clear signal as the first ever episode was The End.
I love the show and gree the first four series were the best. A mate went to some of the filming and he reckons two of the three he saw filmed were up there with some of the stronger episodes. Can't wait to see it!

Was a big fan of the first few series. The books were pretty good too, with loads of extra background for the main story arcs.

Dave is showing the complete back series over the coming weekends. In reverse order (so tomorrow from 11AM is series 8, Sunday from 11am series 7, next Saturday series 6, etc). Back to Earth which was on last weekend

I think the new series is set for the 1st week of October on Dave!
Woo Hoo! can't wait, although I really hope it's better than the 3 episode special they did last year.

Re: Red Dwarf X
Series 1-6 were amazing. Series 7 went seriously down hill but I think Series 8 was getting towards top form again. Back To Earth was a major dissapointment so I am looking forward to this new series but I am not 100% confident in it!
Like the sound of the books, I only heard about them recently.

Re: Red Dwarf X
My favourites are Series 4, 5 and 7 - but I do really like them all, with maybe 3 and 6 coming after them.
Back2Earth I've tried to erase from my mind it was so poor. I'm hoping that the full series is going to go back to normal standard!

4, 5 then 3 for me.
I agree with you on Back to Earth, with the exception of the scene where Lister meets Craig Charles on the set of Coronation St.
Really can't wait to see what they come up with.

Am happy with that.
Much better than the back to earth episodes. Some genuinely funny bits

Enjoyed it. Some of the gags were funny.
They all look like they've put on a few pounds though!

Yeah, Chris Barrie looks like his older self from the end of season six...
I enjoyed it though. It's the first Red Dwarf I've found genuinely funny since season six.

Re: Red Dwarf X
Yup I'm really relieved - it was soo much better than the Back To Earth episodes, and was back to form - maybe not quite as good as the older series, but close.
It was weird how they didn't attempt to explain the gap between Series 8 and this new series, or the Back to Earth mini series, or how Red Dwarf and it's crew had disappeared, or anything.
But was still good.

Re: Red Dwarf X
I missed last week, but this week it just felt a bit wrong. Obviously the fact that everyone has gone from being young-ish to middle aged, but the modern image (make-up, JMC written on everything etc) just seemed weird. Hoepfully given time it will not seem so odd.
Anyhow far better than the tosh where they were all back on Red Dwarf, and everyone was back alive etc.

Loving this new series, the part with the video recording on this weeks was great.

I agree. Two or 3 proper belly laugh moments this week, that's as many as the whole of series 8!
A bit of a pity they haven't managed to get either Hattie Hayridge or Norman Lovett back as Holly - the "new Holly" showed what they were missing. Though I did like the plot angle

Re: Red Dwarf X
I heard somewhere that they would be bringing one of the Holly's (I think Norman Lovett) back, and expected it when the 'new, foxy' Holly was created - or for Norman Levett to replace this new one when she turned out to be a bad choice ala the Queeg episode.
I'm surprised so many people dislike series 8, I thought people would have at least like Pete and the birdman.
