i think dave did well but would struggle against a good mma fighter

Batista was horrible.

His opponent was catching him for fun with his jab before Dave got the takedown.

I know its only his first fight but if an out of shape opponent can do that to him, any average MMA heavyweight would destroy Dave.

I think that is a little harsh. The other guy probably had very poor cardio judging from the amount of fat he was carrying so needed to finish the fight quickly. Batista weathered the storm and kept a cool head. His takedown was very good, very well timed. On the ground Batista showed some very good ground control, his BJJ training was really evident. Yes there is great room for improvement in his stand up game but it's clear Batista does have some good grappling skills.
