Lasith Malinga
Lasith Malinga has announced his retirement from test cricket, after only 30 tests, he thinks his body cant stand up to the demands of test cricket, he is probably right, but now another player has turned to ipl cricket.
what do all of you think of his decision?

Re: Lasith Malinga
not just IPL, he will still play ODI and T20 or Sri Lanka right? So basically Tait over again.
I reckon its something to do with their actions/repetetive motions from how much cricket they play

Re: Lasith Malinga
He said it was because of a recurring knee problem, but with his action it should probably be expected with that unusual style.

Good thing for Sri Lanka is at least hes playing for them in One day Cricket with his type of action hes lucky to be even playing that Sri Lanks have gotta hope his knee doesn't worsen.
Re: Lasith Malinga
Well he obviously didn't think tests to be too important if was happy to play in the IPL with an injury just before a test series. That said, he hasn't really played much test cricket recently, so I don't think Sri Lanka will miss him too much.

I'm glad he's gone.
I know his action has been tested plenty of times but despite what the rule makers say, "it's just not cricket"

Round arm is a perfectly legitimate delivery, if slightly old fashioned, although he it has been suggested he straightens his arm. I would have more issue with the the change to the rule about bending the elbow to make it 15 degrees, which seemed to be quite coincidentally to happen when Murali's action was found to be suspect.

Re: Lasith Malinga
If you look at how he's doing this year in the IPL he's probably right to retire from test cricket, if you've got a little injury it will be less painful to be bowling a maximum of 4 overs, and probably not batting, than it is having to take part in a test match.

Re: Lasith Malinga
the icc law states that it is only an illeagal delivery if the arm is below 3 o clock when the ball is released.

Re: Lasith Malinga
Weren't those rules modified when Mr Malinga came on the scene?
Much of it smacked to me of the rules being bended to accomodate a player with massive following in an emergent nation.
I just cringe whenever I see him in action
