Burns needs a new opponent

Not seen this mentioned yet but Burns replacement opponent needs to be replaced with less than a week until fight night. Feel sorry for anyone who bought a ticket.

Gavin Rees would be a great opponent. And would make for a far better fight than opponent number Walsh or replacement opponent number 1.

C'mon replacement opponent number 2. I'd imagine that Warren might hold a little grudge against Rees, I know Warren isn't the sort of man to hold a grudge, but something makes me suspect that he's not full of Christmas cheer regarding Rees.

Have you heard of Jose Ocampo jimdig? According to Scotland evening times that's who he is fighting. On boxrec he's is the 73rd ranked lightweight with a 17-5-1 record.

He's the original replacement who has dropped out and needs replacing. I imagine he is also going to look like Sugar Ray Leonard compared to whoever Warren will dig up at a weeks notice.

When did he pull out? The interview was in today's paper. My subscription to boxnation is looking a worse investment everyday! Surely there must be lightweights clamouring for a shot at a world title.

walsh and ocampo are both unworthy of a title shot so its not like a mega fight fell through and the crowd are disappointed, the replacement cant really get any worse than the first 2 opponents

What about the prizefighter winner Terry Flannigan, he's due to have a fight this weekend and as yet has no opponent. He's undefeated and hes only down the road.

Ocampo? whats that old saying about not being a household name in his old household. In fairness to Ricky he has been the best matched of Warrens stable, And I really like him as a fighter, seems an honest pro, no bsh1t with him. I'd suspect though that a Broner fight won't be coming anytime soon, for me Burns seems to be at his peak, so in my eyes a Broner fight for him should be now or never (granted a ko loss is probably the likely outcome).

burns has been using him as a sparring partner so maybe...

at least burns has had a decent run of opposition, one lame defense wont hurt him, he's not like cleverly whos bum after bum

Yes it's confirmed it's on the bbc website now,he decided against boxing a 10 round exhibition and instead is aiming to fight in January. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Think it's best he goes away has a good Christmas and comes back in January rather than fighting some no hoper just for the sake of it.

Well Warren tried to get Derry Matthews, but he only offered £15k and the belt wasn't on the line. Derry told him were to go.

The rest of the bill is going ahead though with George Groves now headlining, when ricky fights again they are hoping for Glasgow rather than London.

Can't say I'm too fussed and, from Burns' point of view, it's probably best to keep striking against better opposition while the iron's hot instead of having to make do with a second rate middler for now.

I'd absolutely love for Burns and Warren to really take things to the next level in 2013 - I think Burns deserves some Stateside exposure. Broner's looking absolutely fantastic, but I think Burns would still be a worthy opponent for him. That's unrealistic, but Burns against Vazquez for a WBO / IBF unification could be a real target. I think Burns could win that one, too. He really has come on leaps and bounds and my appreciation for him as a fighter is growing each time I watch him.

How much would a fighter like Derry earn for a British title fight?

A little harsh! And it was Warren after him not the other way round.

As much as I like Derry, he just can't take body shots, Burns would have whipped them in like no tomorrow and it would have been a early stoppage.

But there was stories back in the day of Derry giving Ricky a schooling during sparring.

I would like broner to fight Burns (throw vasquez into the mix) to see who is the best in the division, but I can't see Ricky beating Broner

Win or lose against Broner the Khan fight would do well over here and Burns is big enough to make 140
