New Project

I'm looking to set up a database of articles that profile boxers from throughout history starting from the early bareknuckle days, it wont contain records of fights but is rather an easily accessible means for all us here on v2 to access information. Each profile will link to boxrec but i'm hoping it will be a means for us to learn about those boxers we know little about, it will be some time before it's fully operational but was interested on your opinions on whether you think it will be worthwhile?

Any other ideas are welcome

Ahhhh it's already been done but with ESB you need a verified account to access most things

They also haven't done every boxer obviously. Some good stuff there, but you have to filter a lot.

You need to make a boxing Wiki

I want it to be more opinion based rather than just a factual account of a boxers life, with things like wikipedia it doesn't give you an in depth account of what made a boxer who he was

Would site members put forward bios on the fghters in this wiki thing?

How about the reproduction of the newspaper reports of the day, including build up to big fights, day after reports and general day to day stuff ? I always find that reading this stuff makes the fighters seem more immediately accessible and more ' contemporary.'

I have a mountain of this stuff for the greats of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, and while it would take me a while to convert it all to text and post it here I'd be quite happy to do so if you think it would be beneficial.

Atom I'm coming to the end of my college year. Got three months off in the summer so I've got plenty of spare time and more than willing to help.

Been a while since i've set up a website, about 7 years to be precise so just need to know which software would be the best to use, once it's set up it's just a case of transferring data which should be quite simple

Windy, that's the kind of thing I want, opinions of those around at the time of fighters

I don't entirely understand the ' software and website ' part, though. Won't your database be housed here at 606v2 ?

It will be a stand alone website but hopefully I can get it directly linked from here
