Player of the 6 Nations - Page 2 Empty Player of the 6 Nations

Post by GunsGerms Wed 13 Mar 2013, 3:18 pm

First topic message reminder :

Who is it going to be? For me the standout players from each team so far are:

Lee Halfpenny
Chris Robshaw
Luis Orquera
Wesley Fofana
Stuart Hogg
Rory Best

For me Dan Cole came very close to being England's star man and will probably be shortlisted too.

I think the most improved player and arguably the best 10 so far in the tournament has been Orquera. So he gets my vote. From Rabo reject to 6N star. Some turnaround.

...or maybe Louis Picamoles?

Italy: Zanni, Parrisse, Orquera.
France: Picamoles, Domingo, Mas.
Ireland: O'Brien, Marshall.
Scotland: Hogg, Laidlaw, Beattie.

Surprsing to see Ireland and France so low. This reflects the form of the teams for me. From that list I would pick Halfpenny, surely he will get it if Wales win on Saturday. Alternatively, I would select an Italian player, any of the three.

All of these guys have had 1 decent game, and a 2nd at best.

For me the real standouts have been Laidlaw, Jones, Robshaw and Picamoles.

Closely followed by 1/2p, Ryan, Evans, Farell and Brown.

Standouts for their team, actually having made a difference to the game. I guess you don't watch rugby. I'm not suggesting all of them would be on the draw for player of the tournament. Probably a two-horse race right now, between Halfpenny and Robshaw.

I thought we'd established that this type of comment forfeits your argument.

For me the only thing that counts against Picamoles is that France have so far failed to win a match.

Joint leading try scorer (ok only 2 Very Happy)
Most metres made
Second most carries
Most defenders beaten
Most clean breaks
4th for offloads

He has been an attacking force - good job Dusautoir has been doing his tackling.

Picamoles has also been prominent in defence for France too though. He really has become an all around monster. Although his main strengths are in attack, in defence he puts in big hits, offers massive bulk at rucks and mauls, and makes a surprising amount of turnovers.

He is definitely my choice for player of the 6 nations.

Very strange call I would say. He has been anonymous since moving to 8. Why would you select Tom Wood?
