I'm looking forward to seeing this, I've seen some of the Americans on Twitter going crazy at this conference!

Could be a good fight Mike. Cunningham will come to win, hopefully he'll test Furys whiskers.

You gotta love the guy. I know his irrational haters want a humble guy who would just rather be there and thank everyone and their pets for the opportunity to showcase their skills.

He is a prat who lacks any sort of class and will get slaughtered if he goes anywhere near Wlad, Vitali or Haye. He will have no problems beating up a light punching cruiserweight like Cunningham though.

Well I think all other HWs would get slaughtered if they go near those 3. Cunningham would probably KO Price just by giving him an angry stare.

He may act the prat but so do a lot of other fighters. I watched some of his early fights recently and he is a totally different fighter, deserves a lot of credit for changing and improving his fitness so much.

Can we not have one Tyson Fury thread without Price being brought in to it?

We can indeed. Especially now that the bum has been shown up.
But lets all get behind Fury to land the big one. He is your best chance provided Haye doesn't step up. Get behind your british heroes.

If we can have threads without mentioning him why did you bring him up?

As a comparison.
Fury is entertaining and gets people interested. He is a skilled fighter who has made great strides from his early career. Hilarious bloke also who is terrific for boxing.

There was no need for a comparison in this situation. The constant need to bring him up in every thread is boring now.

Why, because he's been shown up for a bum? If it was Fury you guys would still be laughing. But because its a nice humble man who got whooped by a glancing blow, you guys are still peeved.

Don't start him off.
It's posts like this that remind me encountering Pacnuthuggers who after a few posts really made you hope that they're bias towards one fighter would end up with that fighter getting knocked out.
Come on Cunningham, do us all a favour so Azania keeps quiet for a while!
p.s. couldn't care less about Fury, anyone who loses/struggles past the British version of Butterbean doesn't deserve attention.

Who is this 'your' you refer to?
Most of us can see past nationality. He may well have beaten Price, but he still shamelessly ducked him by vacating belts. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
That said, I hope he does get a shot at Wlad.

I would still put good money on Price putting Fury to sleep, you always seem to forget how Fury was put on his arse by the lightest punching heavyweight in world boxing Neven Pajkic i would imagine Price can jab harder than Pajkic right hook.

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
I dont know why people give Fury such a hard time. He is currently one of the best Heavy Weights in the country and maybe Europe, and he has just as much chance as beating a K as any other out there at the moment... He is not the sharpest tool in the box no, but a talented boxer yes and has obviously been working hard on his fitness and tactical stuff...
That being said I still think Price is the more dangerous fighter and fancy Fury to loose if the two met.. Don't think we have seen the last of Price just yet.

thats the problem , he is NOT a talented boxer , he is awful to watch , slow and average at best , he is so overated by the media ,tunes666 wrote:I dont know why people give Fury such a hard time. Acid test is a bit much. Fury is probably 50lb heavier. He needs to shift the love handles though. I wouldn't take my top in in front of the mrs if I looked like that, let alone appear in TV.

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
Az, please stop as I actually want to read a decent thread on Tyson Fury vs Cunningham.
.... Back to the thread, you got to give Tyson credit, he's entertaining in the press room/ twitter. Boxing needs guys like these, and he clearly got up the American noses.
However, I do feel Cunningham could be a tough night for him. I have memories of Jones vs Ruiz springing to mind but hopefully Tyson has done enough to get Cunningham to engage.

Not really. I think this will be the first opponent who genuinely believes he can win, we've seen Fury dropped by a guy who can be out punched by Malignaggi so what happens if Cunningham lands? No matter how much Az says otherwise Johnson came for a pay cheque.

Cunningham is no jones that's for sure.
People are reading too much into that knockdown. The light punching Collazo had Hatton all over the shop, nobody calling him chinny.

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
Johnson did indeed come for a pay cheque so that fight was a shocking measuring stick. But someone mentioned it already and the way Tyson has transformed himself is commendable. You look back at when John McDermott beat him (and he did beat him) and the bloke was in tatters.
Cunningham is no mug but if Tyson wants to go places his physical advantages should make this a fairly comfortable win, result wise at least.
He's a prat for sure but good luck to him.

Fury is a top 6-7 heavy. He has improved beyond measure. Yes he got decked. So what? He got up and closed the show. The punch was solid enough and not a clip round the ear hole. He didn't start break dancing. He's a great talent.

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
As I watched that I was wondering how Fury, quietly waiting his turn, would handle an American press conference when his turn to speak came around. Again he showed with aplomb he doesn't fail to deliver in the trash talking stakes. There is no doubt he is on the WUM, stirring the pot for a few laughs. He should be able to generate a good bit of hype on NBC in the lead up. By the time the fight rolls around most American's will be tuning in to see him getting beaten up.
When Fury previously hit the canvas he walked open guard onto a peach of a punch, no fighter can afford to be so caviler no matter how hard or light the other guy punches. Fury also doesn't lose his senses and recovers quickly. I don't see Cunningham testing his chin too much but he could lead Fury on a merry dance, at least for a few rounds anyway.

What did Naz say in response to Fury when everyone started laughing with Naz, at around the 34mins 40 secs mark?

Thats quite a line! I must admit that made me chuckle. I'm looking forward to this one, personally I think it's a good match up.
If Fury does make his size difference count then it could be an easy night. However Cunningham does have more than a punchers chance.

I think it was something in response to Fury saying he is used to fighting on national TV in front of the cameras and Naz said "if we both walked down the street, I would get more recognised than you" (Or along those lines)

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
i have a bet at 45/1 that price and fury both lost their next fight.
i actually thought fury was more likely to lose out of the pair of them. i didnt expect thompson to come looking to win, but im sure cunningham will give it his all. if cunningham can stay on his feet for the first 4 rounds, then his mobility could start to tell. fury starts to throw a lot of arm punches in the second half of a fight to compensate what he lacks in stamina. cunningham might tire too, but if it goes beyond 5 im confident it will go the distance. who knows with a higher workrate and fighting at home, its possible cunningham could win this.

i like fury as a fighter, and seen as i don't watch press conferences or use twitter his rants don't bother me.
nobody can fail to see the improvements fury has made, he used to be fat and unfit and now he looks in better shape than most of the other hws, and showed decent skill boxing 12 perfect rounds and completely shutting down kevin johnson.
if has proved he doesn't dodge a challenge, lets remember most people saw chisora as a real 50/50 fight, and a lot of hw's today won't take such a risk early on.

What I can't understand though is that he still looks a little fleshy/chubby in the ring, but some of the photos he posts on Twitter he looks completely ripped.

Re: Fury vs Cunningham press conference.
Haha I really enjoyed some of Fury's chat here. He handles himself well in front of the cameras. Sometimes boxers try the whole supreme confidence thing but are so obviously nervous that its a bit cringeworthy (I remember thinking that about Dirrell in the build up against Froch). But, Fury seems comfortable. Some good soundbytes from him there.
As a boxer I still can't shake the image of him against McDermott, where he was woeful. Part of his issue has been his fitness. But at least he looks in better shape now, so we can be hopeful in that department. I still think Fury seems to slow, uncoordinated and technically slack to become a force at world level. But, I'll be rooting for him here in the hope that I'm wrong.

i like fury. but cunningham in america is a tougher challenge than its being made out to be. its too easy just to dismiss every opponent a guy like fury or price is facing. we were wrong to dismiss thompson, and cunningham is coming into this with less ability at heavy but a lot more ambition, plus home advantage. its not a bad fight at all for fury

McDermott fights weren't the only ones where he looked shoddy. He was poor against Pajkic and that was what, a year ago? Anyway, I'm happy to be convinced otherwise. I hope he makes a good statement against Cunningham.

Does Cunningham even have a puncher's chance?
He wasn't a KO puncher at cruiserweight, was knocked down himself a fair few times, Fury may not have a great chin for a 250 pounder but if the best cruisers can stand up to Cunningham's shots more often than not, I'd back Fury not to be too worried.
