Rigo Got This: Final Thoughts - Page 3 Empty Rigo Got This: Final Thoughts

Post by davidemore Thu 11 Apr 2013, 4:21 pm

First topic message reminder :

So excited about this one. Rigo got this by KO IMO. I just think that despite not having many 12 round fights under his belt, and despite him having slight chin issues (remember the weight he fights at, KO weight), he's got this.

What ya'll think, ya'll? Who got this in your mind and why?

Whatever happens it will be one hell of a fight, sheer entertainment, and a purest's dream. I know it. No stinker here, nu uh.

Excited. heart boxing

Narvaez stepped up in weight and took it pretty well once or twice. It's not absolutely killer unless he connects with speed.

Narvaez is a tough SOB which Rigondeaux isn't, just go and ask Arce, Nishioka, Montiel, Sydorenko or Darchinyan if his power is killer or not.

Narvaez did absolutely nothing in that fight... he didn't get hit, because he didn't even try to open up. One of my favourite quotes from the Nishioka fight from Roy Jones

"Donaire will have to take what he can get, until the shop opens"

LOL

Rigo is the smarter boxer, smarts will be the difference IMO. A true great can unravel anyone's defense. Donaire is not truly great yet.

I don't understand what you are saying Emore. To me it sounds like you're saying a true great as in Rigo can unlock anyones defence? But yet Donaire with the much stronger pedigree and proven worth with truly great wins in the professional game isn't truly great?

I think it was a stab at what I said, in reference to Narvaez being totally defensive the entire fight.

Rigo wins because he has power in both hands, is smart, is capable of blistering speed, adaptive reactive (thanks Dwyer), a back and front foot fighter, so many reasons really. In my opinion.

But it will not be easy.

Not at all.

I've never seen Rigo really adapt at any point, even when he was being a fair bit ineffective against Rico Ramos he just kept doing the same thing.

To be fair, I don't think Donaire's right hand is that much to write home about.

Going into the Darchinyan fight, it was his right which was much vaunted, don't be fooled by his knockouts of Montiel and Darchinyan, his right hand is dynamite too when it lands.

What are you basing your love of Rigondeaux on then?

He has fought absolutely nobody yet in his career and this is a huge huge step up for him which it isn't for Donaire.

Rigondeaux is entiry unproven as a pro, as things stand he's a level below proper champions Montiel, Darchinyan and Nishioka. He has done the sum total of nothing as a pro.

I wouldn't say of SUCH a poor standard, he's beaten relatively credible fighters, Rico Ramos wasn't POOR, neither was Cordoba, though they were nowhere near the heights of a Darchinyan or Montiel or Nishioka.

Well I have never rated Cordoba, anyone who manages to lose to Dunne isn't much cop while Ramos subsequent losses have shown his level as being well below world level.

Darchinyan was looking like one of the next big things until Donaire seriously cut him down to size, Montiel was a major hitter at BW and lookign really tough to beat and was a 50/50 fight with him and Donaire, the manner of victory also makes the this a truly great win. Nishioka was the man at SBW, Donaire waltzed over him.

If they are simply world level fighters, then Rico Ramos and Cordoba aren't world class then, as they are a big step below.

Donaire is elite level, Rigondeaux is not and yes he at the moment is below the level of the aforementioned trio. Trying to say he is currently elite level is just lunacy, you don't get there by having supposed silky skills and a strong amateur pedigree, you get there by beating the best.

Two Gold's a belt after 9 fights, better technical skills than anyone else around and KO power in both hands. You're right, Rigo is completely over hyped.

You bore me and as far as his gold medals and world titles go, it means very little when the best you've faced is Cordoba, if his skills were so much better than anyone else he wouldn't getting troubled by Cordoba and rocked by Marroquin.

I'm torn between staying up or getting up...

I'll be up either way. Can't wait to see
A) The skill on display and
B) The meltdown when one of these guys inevitably loses! Such foolhardy backing of each of them.

Me, I'm a coward, I tentatively back Donaire. Range, power, experience all edging it to him. Wouldn't be surprised to see the laser guided punches of Rigo run Donaire out of oxygen and makes things tough though.

Having said that, DONAIRE KO IN ONE. YOU A FOOL, EMORE. A DAMN, SHAMELESS FOOL.
