Handicap adjustment, 2 day comps
Anyone know the drill for handicap adjustment when playing a 2 day/36 hole competition? Normal, I think, to use the starting handicap for both rounds scoring, but what about handicap adjustment, where a reduction caused by day 1/first 18, might impact buffer zone for round 2/second 18?

CSS isnt usually issued until the end of the competition so technically there will be no cut until then

It's up to the competition committee at your club. The wisdom is generally not to change handicaps after round one, but if the two rounds are separated by days, or weeks, then the two rounds are more likely to be separated for handicap purposes.

On the assumption that these are both qualifying rounds and that a CSS has been calculated for each round, then the handicap in force for the 36 hole competition is the handicap at the start of the 1st round.
Handicaps are then adjusted so that the 2nd round's scores are treated independently.
Happened to me last year - went from 8.4 to 8.5 after the first round and back to 8.3 after the second round. I questioned how I could go from 8.4 to 8.3 and this is what I was told. In effect every qualifying round you play counts for handicap purposes if there is a CSS.
