Wow, in the mens' draw at Roland Garros just 2 Latin Americans made the 2nd round - Uruguayan Cuevas, and Del Bonis from Argentina. Is this a blip, due to a number of players being injured, or is it part of a wider malaise with the well of talent from South America drying up? Its a far cry from the Kuerten glory days and the 2004 all-Argentinian final (with Nalbandian reaching the semi-final that year).

Argentina really has had strength in depth over the past 10-15 years or so - Gaudio, Coria, Nalbandian, Canas, Chela, but unless I'm missing something there doesn't seem to be anyone with huge promise coming through after Del Potro.

Meanwhile there's Brazil's Bellucci, a highly talented, yet real underachieving player who has not backed up his talent with results.

Don't forget Del Potro.
He's a slam winner, staple top 10 and would be challenging for further slams right now if not injured/mono.

I'd be very happy to see one of the North American Masters (they have 4 of them) moved to South America to promote the game further down there.
