The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
Everyday, the v2Journal twitter account is going to ask a question of the day (on Twitter obviously!).
All the questions will have #v2QotD before them, so please try and give us an answer and follow the journal!
@v2journal
I will post the questions on this thread each day - they will be short and snappy, so that they can be answerd in 150 characters or less!
Todays Question:
Can Paulie beat Broner? Is his speed and size advantage enough to make this more even that is made out?

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
No......because he's still slower than Broner...........Can't punch and has had is butt handed to him on every occasion he's fought someone genuinely world class....

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
I think Paulie's chances are slim to none, to be honest.
The problem I have with Malignaggi is how he's often portrayed as some outstanding craftsman and supreme boxer who is lacking only a punch. I've heard, more than once, people claiming that if he caried a bit more pop in his fists he'd be a top ten pound for pounder, for instance, and that that's the only flaw in his make up.
But it's not as if he was just outgunned against the likes of Hatton, Khan etc. He was handily outboxed as well, and I think those fights really blew a hole in this myth that he carries a greatskill threshold. Some of his performances, like the ones against Hatton and N'Dou, have turned my stomach.
I just don't think Paulie is much cop in comparison to the real classy fighters at 140-147 and I can see him taking a bit of a beating in this one. Broner's quicker than him in any case, I think, and loves to fight in close, not giving Malignaggi that space he'd need to stand any chance. I'll be mildly surprised if Malignaggi is still there at the final bell.

Yes. Broner wouldn't be the first US beltholder to come unstuck. Wasn't Lacy p4p Top 10 prior to Calzaghe?

Haha everyone's struggling with the new quote function!!
I'm with Truss and Chris on this one though. Pity because I think Broner's a tool.
Would like to see Khan get a couple of decent wins under his belt so he could tee up a fight, that'd be an exciting match-up!

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
I think Khan is made for Broner he throws his shots and is wide open for counters.......
Broner showed Rees best shot didn't hurt him..........Not sure Khan could hurt him at 147 and that means plenty of time for a perfect counter..

I thought that Paulie put on a fine performance to win his belt (shumenov?) and showed a side of him that might trouble Broner.

Agree but maybe with a couple more fights we might see a Hunter-Khan instead of a Roach-Khan which might be more savvy/cautious and using the lightning jab more effectively. Just pick up rounds with his speed and accuracy, not go for the ko and leave himself to get caught on the counter - which would seem him flatened.

Viacheslav Senchenko not Shumenev. This was the fighter that toppled your mighty icon Hatton recently.
Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
You honestly think the kid can change now ?.........He's been boxing for probably 15 years .......
When the pressure is on you revert to type..
I can think of any number of people who could have beaten Hatton.....Not an icon by the way..

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
The point I was making was that the Shumenev fight wasnt long ago and he fought really well against a tought oppponent.
I just think that Paulie has a very good chance against Broner and could give him his toughest challenge yet.
Paulie will frustrate him unlike other boxers (such as Rees) who come forward.

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
How is Paulie going to frustrate him without engaging.........
Khan, Hatton haven't got Broner's talent and they beat him easy.....
Pinklon Thomas looked great against Mike Weaver.

Paulie has found some pop in his punches these days. He is also not as vocal as he used to be about PED's. May be he has 'caught up' a bit. Stopped 2 of his last 6 at world level.

Bigging up Paulie's chances is like bigging up Fury's against Haye. Amusing but futile

It is an improvement on a career of 19%. Big jump when you consider he probably faced 10+ tomato cans in his early days.

Winning a split against Cano last time out... and having a 33% ko ratio in his last 6 fights.....
Is supposed to tell us he has a chance..........right?

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
Malignaggi is no sugar ray, but he's a tough cookie who hangs in there. A lot of people big up cotto on here, but paulie gave him everything he could handle. He was poor against hatton and khan, but then he was good twice against diaz. Think he's getting a slight raw deal here. Broner is rightfully favourite, and clearly a talent, but when he hasn't blown people away he hasn't always looked a world beater. If ponce de Leon can make him sweat malignaggi can.
Caveat being malignaggi looked like a guy on the slide last time out.
I think this is good matchmaking for broner... A durable proven opponent who won't fold easily, but doesn't really have the tools to threaten him. Decent benchmark opponent, to see how he sits as a welter... Oh and a belt of course.

Paulie will make it interesting for the first 3-4 rounds. Afterwards unfortunately I see it then becoming the Broner show. Malignaggi disappoints more often than not in his biggest fights and as much as i dont like Broner I think hel be too good for Paulie.

Re: The v2 Boxing Question of the Day
Broner is more flash than substance. Malagnagi is underated and is the best boxer Broner has faced since De leon. Despite the record, mainly against SFW's and a couple of LW's, Broner doesn't punch nearly anywhere near as hard as Khan, Hatton or Cotto.
If Broner wins then he wins by points in a stinker.

No. Broner, either by wide UD, KO, or death-by-a-thousand-cuts-style TKO.

It should take place, but i can see it falling through and each side blaming the other for months to come. If, as most people hope, it does happen, i believe it is Haye ko around round 5 or 6.

Highlight the quote and copy it into the writing box. Highlight it again and then press the quote button above (top row icons, third set of four, first icon). Type in the name of the person you are quoting and it is done.
What was so difficult about pressing quote and it would all appear is beyond me! Definitely not an improvement in my book.

Not our decision bhb, was done by the owners of the place. I tend to agree it is not any better, far too tricky for a luddite like myself

You're aving a laff!! See a comment from Boxthis in a Cleverly thread made not a couple of hours ago. He hasn't fought anyone of note in a division where there are several candidates. There are less options in Super Middleweight, but Froch fought them all. Lost to two, avenged one of them, been in several classy fights. No shame in that and easily better than anything Cleverly can claim today.
