Post by spencerclarke Sun 16 Jun 2013, 1:06 pm

Afternoon all.

Bit of fun for a sunday. What would be your dream eight fight card if you were a promoter. Ignore all the politics that go on these days. Every active fighter is yours so you can match whoever you like. What order would you put the fights? Whos going to be the headline fight? Where would you host is? Who would be your commentary team?

Cheers gents

Some good calls so far. I think after the peterson fight matthysse is a must. Against anyone really but a fight with broner would be a great watch.

I think I would have it a caesars palace. Id love to see fights go back there.

Mares v donaire
Mayweather v alvarez - headline
Froch v groves
Golovkin v murray
Khan v maidana 2
Price v fury
Garcia v gamboa

It would be intriguing but not a very good fight. I was loath to put a heavyweight fight on cos these days they are generally dull but the likelyhood of sparks made me put price v fury

It's hypothetical though Truss. Imagine they weren't brothers maybe and see how it pans out. At this point Wlad but prime 4 prime Vitali walks through him

Imagine vitali has had his way with wlads virgin bride on their wedding night, and filmed the whole sordid affair, and played it back to him when he was having his cornflakes with his mum.

Really like pacman v broner. Love to see that fight, a little bit shop worn Manny, against a fake mayweather. It would be a good read of what the true fight might have been like. I hope Manny destroys Rios, broner does the same to Paulie and this fight gets talked up. Broner might just be willing, could the golden boy, top rank Showtime, HBO, problems be overcome for mini money may?

Really? Is this pandering to Winny or a real desire to see this fight? And surely Wlad's name comes first as the Champ!! I still don't see this as a competative fight until Fury comes through a top tier opponent. Funny thing about deja vu, by the way. You can't have it for the first time.

I don't think it'd be a competitive fight either, bhb! But I think it could be an entertaining one from all angles, all the same. I suppose I'd just be intrigued to see how Fury would go about it and if he'd back up his talk by taking the fight to Wladimir, and I'd also be interested to see if he can get under Wladimir's skin and bring out the more aggressive Wlad, just to mix things up a little.

Big win for Wladimir written all over it, but we may just get more action in three or four rounds than we normally see in the full twelve when Wlad's in town.

If Haye can't get under Wlad's skin I can't see Fury exceeding. He's just a louder but less clever version of Haye in that respect.

Wlad by KO in 6-8 rounds.

I don't think you have to be clever to wind people up, just determined. Chisora is a borderline special, not even that borderline really, and he manages to find a way to wind up everyone he fights.

Matthysse Vs. Broner
Matthysse Vs. Garcia
Matthysse Vs. Khan
Matthysse Vs. Judah
Matthysse Vs. Mayweather
Matthysse Vs. Golovkin
Mathysse Vs. Canelo
Mathysse Vs. Wlad

All on the same night, judging by some of the comments about him on here I'm sure he could handle all of them in one go.

Anyway
Price v Wilder
I have a feeling it would be a case of first guy to land anything wins. I'd actually back Price, as he's shown boxing ability to go with power. If Wilder lunges in so carelessly I feel he'd be taken out. Not that I'd put any money on it.

Guillermo Jones v Marco Huck

Groves v Stieglitz
I believe it would be an exciting clash, plus genuinely competitive, unlike other potential matchups in the division like Ward v Froch II or Froch vs Groves or Degale.

Golovkin v Martinez
Based on Sergio's last outing, I'd back Gennady.

Murray v Barker

Canelo v Mayweather, obviously.

Mayweather v Pacquiao as well, f*ck it. If brothers can fight we can clone Floyd. Imagine, two of them flaunting wads of cash simultaneously and spouting self agrandising, odorous bars until they reached critical mass and imploded.

Khan v Ortiz

Maidana v Guerrero

Mathysse v Garcia/Maidana

Abril v Burns.
If you can gaurantee a fight will go the distance, it's that one.

Gamboa v Garcia
Gamboa born with so much going for him, but he doesn't seem to have the relentless concentration always apparent with Mikey.

Donaire v Mares

Rigondeaux v Montiel

I barely know anyone below super bantam.

I take it you still haven't warmed to him alex?

I don't think anyone believes he is an unstoppable wrecking machine. Just that with his power he very dangerous to anyone. No doubt eventually someone will outclass him with boxing skills and a blue print to beat him will be there. But his fights will always be impressive to watch

Which is why Broner at 140 would be such an interesting fight. Serious speed and technical skills versus serious power and killer instinct.
