(I don't think this ones been done before, I apologies if so).

So who do you think is the chiniest world champ ever?  I suppose Khan has to be up there......maybe Nigel Benn as well.

Over to you....

At heavyweight Floyd Patterson was always pretty fragile.

One of the worst chins I ever saw was Roger Mayweather ..Floyd's Uncle !!

Never known anybody knocked clean out so early so often..........

Lockridge ko 1.........Pendleton ko 1............Chavez ko 2................

Even at 140 he struggled to ship Brazier's bombs and he couldn't punch.....

Amazing boxer, superb skill - great champion.

Chin made of glass. Hit him hard and he's down.

Nah, Bruno had a decent chin just bad survival instincts.
Wlad's chin is suspect but you'd still need a big puncher to catch him flush in order to put him in trouble.

Good shout on Uncle Roger, Truss. Reminds me of Johnny Bumphus who had a pretty miserable chin for a world champion, too.

Jake Rodriguez didn't have much of a set of whiskers from what I've seen, either. Amazing to think that he went the distance with Trinidad when he was on queer street every time Tszyu brushed him and was made to cower against Whitaker.....Whitaker at 147, no less.

Important to distinguish what 'chinny' is. Nigel Benn is as far from chinny as you can get in my book.

Khan obviously.
Nicky Cook was pretty feeble against Martinez.
Wlad obviously.
Enzo.
Bute (poor survival instincts but chin is questionable)
Roy Jones.
Jermaine Taylor

Has Terry Norris been mentioned yet?

David Price when he inevitably becomes world champ.

You may laugh but Price has still got a good shot at becoming world champ as probably Chisora has too..

There have been quite a few Japanese, I'm not sure who the Japanesiest of them was. Not entirely sure how you measure it to be honest.

I guess you can always argue that the Heavyweights deserve a bit of a pass on these kind of issues, but I'd have to mention Bruce Seldon, too. Pretty good boxer but as soon as anyone hit fresh air with bad intentions within two feet of his chin, he was a goner.

Felix Trinidad was known to hit the canvas a few times, even against Kevin Lueshing. He did mostly get up to win though.

mobilemaster8 wrote:Khan knocked out in a minute by Prescott, knocked out with pretty much one punch with Garcia, nearly died against maidana, dropped by limmond and Gomez, dropped in his last fight too....

When I think about Khan's knockdowns it always perplexes me. I get the whole definition of chinny but to a large degree I am against the way it is banded about so easily these days. For instance anyone who is put down a couple of times becomes chinny!

Pacman has been knocked out 3 times in his career but doesn't have a chinny tag, Lennox Lewis was decked twice but 'poor preparation' was blamed.

Now Khan does go onto queer street quite often when being caught, but it's strange because when you think back to his knock-downs/outs he is never left out cold. In fact he shows some cojones getting up from some of them.

For instance Limmond dropped him as Khan was back-pedalling, clean knockdown but ultimately Khan was off balance. The same can be applied to Gomez. Then you look at the Prescott fight...hands low, 1st round nerves, caught jumping in to land a shot of his own. The shot he took was ridiculous and would have knocked out many a fighters...and most likely cold...Khan somehow managed to get up and take another massive shot...which he still tried to get up from. Against Maidana he took some huge shots and stayed upright, I don't see how this fight goes against his chin because he didn't get knocked down/out. In fact when you think, Froch gets called an iron chin...Cotto shows plenty of heart...when they take shots and don't go down. Then we have the Garcia fight..again..it wasn't like he was put to sleep. He was knocked down weirdly from a shot to the neck and then in the next round was put down twice by big counter shots..as I recall he wasn't on the canvas at the end of the fight...rather being counted out on his feet.

Anyway back to the point in question...

Wlad has to be there - Granted hasn't been knocked out in years but that has more to do with not being caught/quality of opposition than anything. Still think should he be caught full and clean he will go to sleep.

Lucian Bute - Guy was knocked all over the place from pillar to post and had the ropes not been there against Froch I think he would have gone to sleep.

Gamboa - I haven't bought into him in the say way a lot of people have, talented fighter for sure but I have doubts over his chin. Much like Wlad his defence has helped shield this potential problem as he isn't often caught clean. Been wobbled and put down by Farenas and has been left wobbled on a few other occasions.

Enzo Mac - Former champion rather than current but need I say anything about his chin!

Khans chin is not as bad as its made out to be, it sure isn't granite but most of his problems come from being hit flush or not seeing punches coming due to his woeful defence, has he ever rolled with a punch?

Tommy Hearns would be an ATG Top 10 if only he had a chin, well at least that's what Truss keeps telling me.  Terry Norris another fighter Truss talks about ad nauseum also had suspect whiskers.

I'm surprised Truss didn't throw in Lennox Lewis or has he now moved on from that particular obsession. Wink

David Price has a glass ear.

Bernard Dunne is a good call.  The first time Poonsawat landed with a short punch Dunne was all over the place.  Still Dunne was clever enough to know he didn't have it at that level and retired from boxing a wealthy man and a TV personality.

I'm with the above regarding Khan's chin.
he gets shaken and wobbled very easily, however he bloody gets up every time.

he's got a big heart there's no denying that. he never leaves the fight out cold like manny did, or hatton against manny.

he's put down and shaken, but will get up and fight to the end.

Herbie Hide is a good example (if you regard carrying the WBO belt as being a world champ). He 'd go down if the wind changed direction.

Patterson probably if we're talking real champions.

think heavyweights do deserve a bit of leeway on chin issues as there being hit with alot more power than other weights. if a smaller fighter is going down all the time signifies a worse chin than say a lewis who got put down against rahman with a punch that would have felled a horse

compelling and rich
