OWGR Week 36
Not much importance to the OWGR right now... except the World Cup field will be determined by the OWGR rankings as of September 23, 2013
Qualification will be "similar" to qualification for the Olympics in 2016 with a few changes. Qualification is as follows:
*** The field will include 60 players (no cut), with eligibility taken from the Official World Golf Ranking. Up to four players can qualify, per country, if they are in the top 15 of the OWGR. Beyond No. 15, up to a maximum of two players per country can qualify.
*** If two or more players from a country qualify, then the country is eligible for team competition, with the top-two players comprising the qualified team.
*** The major difference between the World Cup qualification model and that of the Olympic golf competition is that England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland will each be considered a separate country (for the purpose of the Olympics, those four countries compete as Great Britain). Further, the Olympic Games golf competition will not feature a team component.
*** OWGR points will be awarded for the individual portion of the competition. If ALL players eligible were to participate, the OWGR field strength would be a 62 (462+54). But just a few non participants among the top players could reduce that significantly... For instance if Tiger and Phil were not to play, the event drops to a 56.
Again... all these are ESTIMATES bases on today's OWGR... certainly subject to massive changes.
KEY: The following List would be the current qualifiers by country then current OWGR ranking.
Q = Those that would be Qualified (bold)
A = Alternates if one of the above did not play (Regular type)
x = Possible Alternates but currently not qualfied via OWGR (Italics) - Currently the lowest OWGR ranked player in the field is #307 Mikko Korhonen of Finland. Some players ranked #308 and below could possibly make the field depending on who WD'd above them... IF the OWGR were to extend down to include them. It is doubtful (but not impossible) that anyone below #350 would make the field.

Re: OWGR Week 36
Strong possibility that Hanson will be replaced by Blixt seeing as Hanson is out injured at the moment and who wouldn't want to see the Swedish gallery

Re: OWGR Week 36
Very well could be. A specific one or two in a Blixt gallery sighting is always a good thing.1GrumpyGolfer wrote:Strong possibility that Hanson will be replaced by Blixt seeing as Hanson is out injured at the moment and who wouldn't want to see the Swedish gallery
But keep in mind... while the qualification date is September 23, the event doesn't play until November 21. I haven't heard any more on Hanson's back issues, he at least got through the PGA and a couple rounds at the Wyndham... anyone got any more on Hanson's health?

Re: OWGR Week 36
Assuming about 28 points for the KLM Open this week?
And about 70 for the Beemer??
A lousy week for Europeans in poor form, quite apart from some abject "efforts" in Chicago - Harrington, Casey, Olesen and Colsaerts all performing way below what they believe their station to be. Lowry too, assuming he doesn't birdie in.
