He can head the ball. He can tackle well. He has some pace. He can read the game on occasion. What he's never had is a decent CB partner, as Keown did with Adams.

Re: Euro Division LXV
Koscielny is a good partner. He's also better than Vermaelen.
Maybe not Mertesacker so much.

Re: Euro Division LXV
I've never bought that Vermaelen is a good defender. He has never been that impressive defensively. He had the hype in his first season which was purely done to his goalscoring as far as I could tell.
The goals dried up, the focus switched to his defending and he had suddenly "turned" into a bad defender.
I'm with Sod, Koscielny has always looked better to me and I would much prefer him in my defence than Vermaelen

Re: Euro Division LXV
Koscielny isn't a suitable partner for Vermaelen though, they're very similar styles of CB. Mertesacker is a better style of partner for both, but he took an age to get settled.

Re: Euro Division LXV
Morning
Why should Kos be the suitable partner when he is the better CB if the two? Like Afro said Vermalen was rated because of his goal scoring in his first season.

Re: Euro Division LXV
I never said he should be, I'm just saying that Vermaelen was never going to play well with Kos alongside him. If memory serves, both were pretty dreadful at the time. Mertesacker was very poor when he came in, but him and Kos are now a decent partnership. Vermaelen is totally expendable if they get a replacement.

It's probably inevitable that it will be Kurt Zouma or some other French wunderkind.

Re: Euro Division LXV
I'll always remember Simeon Jackson putting Vermaelen on his arse at the Emirates (before wildly blazing his shot wide to remind us this was Simeon Jackson not Lionel Messi)
The Kos/Mertesacker partnership works quite well

In no particular order;
Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
Daft Punk - Get Lucky
Robin Thicke - Blurred Lines
Macklemore - Thrift Shop
Michael Buble - It's a Beautiful Day
Don't judge me on Buble, it's a great song...

I couldn't name one song from this year. I stopped listening to the radio when Chris Moyles left Radio 1 last September. Not even heard of Imagine Dragons, Robin Thicke or Macklemore.

That's a good choice Marky, I prefer can't hold us down by macklemore over thrift shop.

I keep hearing Chris Moyles on TalkSport, doing a Travis Perkins commercial filled with double entendresAzzy Mahmood wrote:I couldn't name one song from this year. None of those three acts/artists were known before these songs, I think they were all debut hits. Worth listening to though, even if you give each song a YouTube listen.

Sodhat is like that bloke I hated years ago who thought the Kaiser Chiefs "I predict a riot" was nowhere near as good as "Oh my God".

I utterly despise the Haim song, especially due to Xfm playing it, it's not Indie/Rock, it sounds like Shania Twain meets the Wilson Picketts.

They're good, but I could name quite a few similar bands who were better in the same era.
Fratellis, Arctic Monkeys, Kings of Leon, Franz Ferdinand to name four off the top of my head.
