BOXNATION just got the rights to show the biggest Heavyweight showdown in years between Ring Heavyweight Champion Wladimir Klitschko and unbeaten Alexander Povetkin on October 5th.

This will also be the first Heavyweight showdown between 2 former Olympic Super Heavyweight Gold Medallists and is the biggest fight ever staged in Russia.

Undercard:

Mateusz Masternak vs. Grigory Drozd, 12 rounds, for Masternak's European cruiserweight title.
Ruslan Chagaev vs. Jovo Pudar, 12 rounds, heavyweights.
Rakhim Chakhkiev vs. TBA, 10 rounds, heavyweights

Yeah! Im so amped for this! Imagine if Povetkin were to win?! Big brother would have to step in and show everyone who the man of the division really is... Not going to happen, of course, but I give Povetkin a better chance than most

Mad how we get a fight in Britain like BJS gone midnight and then Wlad Vs Povetkin will be at a reasonable time. Good on Frank though while I dont like the guy (who does?) Boxnation is at least delivering some good fights around the globe

Unless Povetkin has suddenly discovered how to move his head and has added some extra pop to his shots, then I see another straightforward win for Wladimir, only with the caveat that it'll be a little more exciting than normal. It's a rare case of Wlad being the 'away' fighter and I suspect he won't want to leave anything to chance. Povetkin seems spooked enough in the run up to this and I think if Wladimir piles on the pressure, he'll be mentally broken soon enough.

Well I'm not normally one to try and delve in to a fighter's mind, Alex, so don't take owt I say here as gospel! But Povetkin just has the look of a concerned man, to me. I think he'd have put this fight off forever if he had his way (and Lord knows, he still made a pretty good fist of doing so). He keeps reeling off the old cliché lines about how the crowd will elevate his performance, how anything can happen in boxing because it only takes on punch etc. Just doesn't seem all that confident and also looked to be typically intimidated by Wlad at the press conferences, shoots etc that I've seen.

I could be wrong, but I just don't think Povetkin believes he can win this. He'd be no different to plenty of other Wladimir opponents in that respect, of course, but those expecting a high-quality, competitive Heavyweight title fight are going to be left a wee bit disappointed, I reckon.

What to expect from this fight. I doubt Povitkin will do anything special to trouble Wlad. 

Is Povikin still with Atlas?

He's not with Atlas as far as I know.

Povetkin has been ranked No.3 for a long time. This fight has to happen.


It will be a massive night in Russia. Career high payday for Wlad. The build up will be good. The fight won't create world peace though.

Povetkin needs to be on top of his conditioning. It was his poor conditioning that nearly lost him the Huck fight. He can't afford to make that mistake against Wlad because he'll get severely punished for it. If he doesn't get into the ring in top shape then he's only got himself to blame.
