Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
2014-05-03 Floyd Mayweather Jr 45(26)-0-0
MGM Grand, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 12
WBC welterweight title
bout subject to change & commission approval
I wonder where Boxrec get their info? They do call some fights that don't get made Anyone think this one is a goer.
I have a feeling Khan is next for Money May. I thought the fight might have been in the UK but I don't know what the BBBofC rules are on injecting pain killers. Floyd talking about fighting in the UK may just have been to stir up interest and gauge the reaction.
Anyway, Khan is often suggested as being the man with the foot speed and fast hands to trouble Mayweather. Can Virgil Hunter be the man to finally put together a plan that Khan is able to understand and stick to?
The first few rounds could be interesting.

I think Mayweather punches hard enough to stop Khan, he is also physically bigger than him as well. Easy night for Floyd.

Stephen Hawking punches hard enough to stop Khan.
I see the winner of Khan v Alexander going on to face May. I don't see Khan facing May if he looses.
Both Khan and Devon will be hyped for thier fight with the prospect of Money May up next should make an exciting fight 1 I think Alexander will win........by KO.

The Khan v Alexander fight is off.
Khan side stepped Devon to fight Floyd.
I should have mentioned that in the article.

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
"It looks like a potential matchup between former jr. welterweight champion Amir Khan and reigning IBF welterweight champion Devon Alexander will NOT be taking place on December 7 after all. Sources close to the information have informed us that Khan has been tabbed as the frontrunner to land the coveted assignment of facing undefeated pound-for-pound king Floyd "Money" Mayweather in his next bout. As such, it appears that the British native has decided to forego an opportunity to face Alexander in December in favor of using the extra time to prepare for the biggest challenge of his career. It's unclear exactly when that challenge will come, but according to Mayweather, he plans on fighting again in May of 2014, which would make it over a year since Khan last fought."

Khan will be knocked clean out in 4 rounds if this fight happens. Won't get anywhere near Mayweather, then Khan will get frustrated, will turn it into a wild brawl, and then the glass chin will smash again when Mayweather counters.
Will be a good fight to market though, with interests on both sides of the Atlantic.

Also has Asian and Islamic interest. Khan pushed hard that the now postponed Alexander fight be held in the Middle East.Duty281 wrote:

it's a shame as it would have been a much bigger fight if khan was coming off a big win. ideally off a big couple of wins.

Does nobody think Khan will deliver a lot of fast leather on Mayweather. Floyd's footwork beats opponents on it's own but as I see it Khan will be able to dance with Mayweather without too many difficulties.
Floyd doesn't like pressure fighters that break up his rhythm and make him fight at a fast pace. I think the first few rounds of this fight will be competitive until Floyd works Khan out and KO's him.

I see Khan showing the world what he is capable of and beating Floyd`........ for 2 rounds before a major ass whooping for 2 rounds and the ref saving Khan from himself in 5. Great fight whilst it lasts as Khan will make Floyd look exciting.

Although, like others, I'd much rather this one came after a possible Alexander win, I like this fight. I guess Devon was just too dangerous to upset the apple cart. Khan will need at least one win before then though.
It's the first time in a while Mayweather's facing a guy who presumably won't attempt to come forwards and outmuscle Floyd in one way or another. A faster, rangier fighter.
Floyd KO victory in an exciting fight to keep PPV sales up after a couple of fairly dull fights.

Total waste of time for Mayweather.
Khan is damaged goods and Mayweather lays him out inside 4 rounds.
Thought Mayweather would've fought Danny Garcia or Adrien Broner next.

Re: Khan v Mayweather - 5th May 2014 - EDIT: THIS FIGHT IS ON
I have always thought he had a style to at least trouble floyd. Fast punches in bunches, decent output to fight at a pace. Excellent record against boxers.
If this was the khan from around the time he fought Judah, I'd have seen this as a very interesting fight. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he ever would have won, just that he would present problems to floyd. Frankly that's all I'm interested in in floyd fights... That he fights someone who poses a challenge of some sort.
Whichever, although he hasn't fought a stand off boxer recently, khan does look kippered, so hopes of a reasonably competitive fight look forlorn.

It will be exciting. That is what matters. Khan won't be able to hurt May. He will trouble him with his speed, but as soon as Floyd adapts (sounds like a Borg) he will win and KO Khan.kingraf wrote:When youre getting $40m and asking fans to part with $75 a fight, I dont think you deserve an easy night.

I reckon Alexander will beat Khan anyway, but if Khan gets a shot at Floyd in view of his recent fights then Floyd will be a laughing stock for taking on such a poor challenger. Khan is not the big seller people pretend either, all his fights are in front of empty arenas in the US or half full in the UK and also his PPV numbers are terrible any money made from this fight would be on the back of Mayweather's name so he might as well fight a more worthy challenger instead. If Floyd is sure he wants to fight in Wembley then do it against Garcia or Martinez it will still be massive and actually might be a bit of a fight as well.

Khan against anyone non-British would definitely not be a massive fight in the UK. Like him or loathe him, Khan brings excitement to most fights he's in. Mayweather and Canelo/Guerrero were good fights for the purists but didn't exactly set the pulse racing. Khan brings a guaranteed KO for Money May after a couple of half-competiitve rounds, so I'm sure HBO are pushing for it and Vegas will benefit from all the travelling British fans. Bradley or Alexander would be worthier opponents but they bring little in the way of fans or following. A great fight for Khan to make some money and retire citing the fact that he couldn't beat the best so has lost his motivation and wants to lead the quiet life with his new wife in lovely old Bolton.

I'll be disappointed if Khan vs Alexander fight has been called off and more so if it was instigated by Khan. Amir really needs to earn the right to fight Floyd and I just don't think he's done that in his last couple of fights. Having said that, I think Amir's hand speed will cause Floyd a few problems.

I think Khan is the fastest out there at the moment, its just that his only real strength as well as a lot of heart. Chances are Floyd will win but it would be interesting to see him up against someone who is quicker.BoxingFan88 wrote:I don't buy that Khan is faster than Mayweather at all, Mayweather is superior in every aspect.Strongback wrote:2014-05-03 Floyd Mayweather Jr 45(26)-0-0

Very good honest interview with Virgil Hunter.
He says if Khan fights Floyd now he would be in for a rude awakening. Floyd is quicker and processes quicker.
He also reiterates that Khan needs to knuckle down. Khan needs to do the drills and boring stuff and live a spartan boxing lifestyle.

He was referring to Khans current inactivity not generally... that if he knuckles down and works hard he has the tools, when Khan is in shape and fit his hand speed is at least every bit as fast as Mayweather's..Strongback wrote:Very good honest interview with Virgil Hunter.

The same Hatton who was getting picked off most of the fight before eventually being stopped and who got stopped in rnd 2 by Pac Man, and with Ortiz you mean the KO where Floyd hit him square on the chin before the reff gave Ortiz the ok to fight on with him standing their with his guard down? Malignaggi could knock someone out if they held their chin in-front of him...Hammersmith harrier wrote:Go tell that to Hatton and Ortiz or the iron chinned Mosley who ended up backing off or even Alvarez, he hits more than hard enough to get rid of Khan.

Dont need great power to knock out Khan but I agree - he'll drag it out then knock Khan out spectacularly to boost his next fight.

Anyone know if xylocaine is banned in the uk.... That might dictate where the fight would take place.
Interesting interview with hunter, he talks about ward and khan's work ethic independently but it's chalk and cheese. Barely hiding his frustration at khan not putting the effort in.

Hatton walked into 100 power punches face first before he eventually fell over, and Ortiz really?
Mayweather is super accurate but feather fisted. Khan gets troubled by tough power punching pressure fighters - the complete opposite of Mayweather.

Suggesting Mayweather is feather fisted is over egging it, he's not a KO artist but he always makes his opponents respect his power.

According to Boxrec the fight is in Vegas.
I can't see Floyd giving up his "MGM House Fighter" privileges to go and fight in Britain where a ref could stop the fight if Khan actually managed to land a punch.
Article on Floyd from last Thursdays Guardian with plenty of Floyd quotes.
