OWGR Week 46 - Page 2 Empty OWGR Week 46

Post by robopz Wed 13 Nov 2013, 6:10 pm

First topic message reminder :

Looks like the DP World Tour Championship will be worth OWGR 54 (lowest ever) if Oosty makes the start... 52 if he doesn't.   Compare to 58 the last 3 years and 56 in 2009.    Garcia, Els and Schwartzel would have brought it up to a 56 (with Oosty and with or without injured Noren)

It is odd there was no R2D finale interest on here.

Pretty good event despite the large wining margin.

Rory seemed to be playing pretty well and you would thin he will be back in contention from the beginning of next year onward.

Will Stenson prove to be another European who fails to win a major while at the top of the world (well, top 3 at least) or can he capitalize on good form?

Ian Poulter - European #4.

Bloody hell.

Stenson is hitting more greens than Maverick/Fader at the moment, if he keeps his form up I really can't see anyone beating them.
Even Nine Chins would have trouble.

Stenson's driving with his 3 wood is a big reason for his upturn in his form I think. Granted its off set to 12 degrees but very rarely does he hit a driver any more and he still hits it around the 300 yard mark. His driver was always a struggle for him.

Stenson is playing so well at the moment. Amazing the amount of money he has won since June.

Hope Poulter enjoys paying up his bet and being the Waiter for Stenson and his guests.

stenson has been using a 3wood off the tee most of the time for the vast majority of his career. i think hes longer than Bubba, DJ, Colsaerts etc. but he has the sense to not use it very often. despite rarely hitting driver he is still near the top of the Driving distance stats.

If Nine Chins used that sort of tactic I reckon he'd have at least another few majors, fortunately, he isn't intelligent enough to do so.

completley agree SR- stenson and 9C are two of the best in the world with 3woods and both long enough to use it most of the time.

I think most people are Hendo, my 3 wood is sensational and I use it most of the time instead of a driver, I'm no Stenson, but 280 has certainly been achieved.

Stenson hit a 284 yard 4 iron on to one of the greens on Saturday (might have been Friday). It was all carry as well. Never seen anything like it, the commentators were shocked as well.

a 12 degree 3 wood is a driver lads, lets make that pretty clear. and in good condition's very easy to ave 280 plus for a medium to long am/pro

The major defference between my 3 wood's (13 degree PT, adjustable degree TM, or new 13 degree PT) and driver is ball flight. I like my driver to go high and bomb , sometimes i take out my TM which is like a carbon copy of my driver in ball flight but just shorter , but usually i take my steel shafted 3 woods(or take the degrees down on my TM) and the ball flight is boreing and runs out a lot more!

However to cut a long story short my 3 wood goes almost as long as my driver for a lot of the time I play the game just has a completely different ball flight

and just because someone says something is a 3 wood or a driver or even a 4 iron(that may be a couple of degrees shut and have a longer shaft!!) doesnt mean it is anything like a different driver or 3 wood!!

Very true Oakey.
It's common for club golfers to go straight for a 9.5 degree driver but they go right up to 13 or 14.

The higher the loft, the easier it is to keep straight.

I know Henrik's a beast but that's unbelievable, there must have been external factors at work for that to happen

Obviously getting the correct shaft and kick points is also very valid as well sr.

the loft is only as good as the kick point and stiffness!

If your shaft doesnt react correctly to your swing you will end up with more or less loft at impact

What I mean though oakey is the physics of ball spin and how loft affects that, obviously the rest is important too for fine tuning for being actually being able to hit it consistently but as a general rule, a higher lofted club is easier to hit straight than a club with a very low loft.

Yep that true.

but I just wanted to point out that it isn't just about loft..

True, but it is a very good reason why higher handicappers are recommended to have higher loft drivers.

After all, you don't have a 20 degree wedge.

Incredible shot no doubt... no pressure on it really, but impressive never the less.
