CL Last 16

First topic message reminder :

Some cracking games this week, Barca/City and Bayern/Arsenal. Can't see past Bayern and Barca wins. Pellegrini has said he'll attack Barca and I say do so at your peril. This may not be the Barca side from 2010-2012 but its still a very very good side with players in form currently, namely Fabregas, Sanchez and with a returning Messi back in the goals. There's a chance that if they go in with two strikers that they could get torn to pieces. I think against Barca you have to play a 5 man midfield. They keep the ball too well and will just pass their way through you.

Sissoko and Finnan did not lack pace.

Man United wont get past Bayern. Not matter how you dress it up.

We won't know until the final whistle, hell your lot somehow won it in 2005 so nothing is for certain.

Liverpool had a good last 16 and quarter final. They beat Leverkusen something like 6-3 on agg then knocked out Juve. Then they got the only goal scored by the kop end and had some of Michael Jordan's Secret Stuff at half time in Istanbul.

If that Liverpool team was playing Bayern tonight, I would favour Bayern to go through.

Again there's a big difference between a team being a favourite to win and being assured of victory as you seem to be suggesting. Bayern are strong favourites but stranger things have happened in the past so i'm not completely writing off United's chances.

Bayern are almost as bad at the back as United. It's just their midfield that is far, far superior. Fergie will have given Moyes some tips on how to play a Guardiola team so you never know but I don't expect much.

The fact that van Buyten's pushing 90, Dante bricks himself when someone charges at him with pace and Boateng is a poor excuse for a footballer. Alaba's good but I'm undecided on the RB. The only reason they've conceded 21 goals this season is because they play in a walkover league (for them) and have had a relatively easy passage so far.

this is just embarrassing for united, munich are just passing around them like utd are a sunday league team.

relatively easy passage in the CL??? They had Man city in their group who were scoring goals for fun in the PL and had Arsenal in the KO stages.

Munich's defence whether you like the individual players or not performs great as a team, hence why they conceed so few goals. Football is a team game so if their defence is good as a team that's all that matters.

I used to live in Barcelona and i can tell you that their fans love the style of football that guardoila brought them. Different footballing culture to the UK where we play very direct.

I must have missed the bit where Arsenal were a good team.

Valid point though, as players the back 4 are not the strongest but like Barcelona of a few years ago they don't need to be. The team does the defending by keeping the ball.

At the time of the draw Arsenal were top of the PL.

Funniy enough the last time Munich failed to score in any game was against Arsenal in 2013 when we beat them 2-0 in Munich.

Had a fancy for Madrid since the outset. No reason other than no team has ever defended the CL.

Wouldn't be surprised one bit though if Chelsea win it.

Welback's pace has been the only threat Munich has faced. Could be interesting to see Munich take on the counter attack that is Real Madrid

Utd certainly came back into that in the last 15 mins and Bayern haven't really broken them down yet

yes I think barca had one of the slowest defences around, mascherano, pique and puyol were all snails.

As much as I hate how Utd are playing (I'd rather see them attack but as Fergie learned twice against Barca, it's suicide), it's the right way to play against this lot. I'll still criticise Chelsea when they do it though

Different Madrid side that was though Juan, they relied to heavily on Ronaldo a couple of seasons back now they have Bale to help out and in form Benzema. Dare I say it Modric has improved their midfield ever since he's become a first team player.

pique has been injured, maybe out for the season
