Best Current French Player

Just a simple question out of interest. Who do you think the best current French male singles player is?

If Simon had Tsonga's power he'd be the best of the lot.

Gotta go with the rankings and say gasquet he's the most consistent if them all and nowadays is ironically the strongest up in the head. Tsonga SHOULD be the best but he's got work to do

I voted Tsonga. In inspired form he is a nightmare for anyone. Just a shame currently that he is a shell of that creature!

As the term current was used In went for Monfils on the grounds of his progress here in RG and Tsonga's sterile exit and Gasquet's continuing to flatter to deceive. If we were talking long-term I would have went for Tsonga.

well if we're talking about the player who's achieved most of the three then it's Tsonga, hands down. A Masters title, a slam final and a few semis beats anything the others have done. Monfils has only performed at RG in the slams (though he does have a fine record there), while Gasquet's been up and down, but never really fulfilled his undoubted ability.

If we're talking about who's the best player right now, I'd probably go with Gasquet. He's had a disappointing RG (not so much the defeat to Verdasco but the meak surrender), but isn't really a good clay-courter, and has been playing pretty well in recent times.

Really though, they've all been a little under-achieving IMO. Certainly in France the talk was 5-6 years ago of a return of Les Mousquetaires (with Simon thrown in), but they just haven't kicked on.

Could it perhaps be Samone?

I don't know his first name and I've never seen him play but I've heard Jim Courier talking about him.

poor Simon, even when his name is not mentionned, people still make fun of him!

as for the original question :
- on current form :Gasquet
- on the long run : Tsonga
- once every 4 years : Monfils

Tsonga.

Gasquet. He's made big strides over the last year, working on his conditioning in particular. Shame he's been injured recently.

Tsonga has the firepower though, and has achieved more in his career.
