Assassin bug deservedly at number 1. They are amazing creatures. David Attenborough did a feature on them in Micro Monsters.

We have an arthropod pet at home. A Chilean Rose tarantula, called Helen (the kids named it). She is great. I like nothing more than scaring kids and parents that come round by nipping upstairs and bringing her down.

I had to re-route colonies of ants to the safe side of the retaining walls so they wouldn't get heavy walls built upon them.
It's much safer and there's less disturbance for them there out the back.
They won't have to make the perilous migration any more, either. They are already out of the war zone!

Other thing I've noticed - wasps and bees were attracted to my mini mountain of earth (which is soon to be removed).

It's like a scaled down version of a mountainous region of Yemen. Blades of earth perfectly formed for insect high rise buildings. Interwoven with this heavily eroded, bleak clay landscape of ravines and steep valleys there's a network of small holes which made perfect caves for them. The Taliban-type insurgents have also set up a camp on the far side of the main peak. I think they are up to something. There's a sort of energetic tension in the air.

A few different tribes of wasps... a really cool all black one with yellow jaws... your standard orange and black striped ones.
Fascinating to watch them develop small networks of holes amongst the bees... which I must say treated me with a fair amount of respect.

I feel bad that I've dried up several of their water sources though.
