Some what tongue in cheek but half true...

There are many over used words and phrases on here.

Here are few from the top of my head that irritate me..

"hyperbole"
"casual"
"vitriol(ic)"
"ergo"
"as (insert name) alluded to earlier"
Boxrec used as an insult
"wax lyrical"

Which words or phrases do your napper in, make you roll your eyes, or make you cringe?

Stylistically. Right at the top for me

'Shot' when anyone loses and people don't want to give the winner credit

The boxrec thing is annoying but moreso because it just makes the person stating it look like a prat (do you not know it's there to get results and stats from???)

Casual used to bug me but it makes me laugh now.

Good call on shot VC,

People calling others on not knowing boxing because there scores were different than there's (I'm not on about debating it, just stating 'no your stupid because you don't agree with me.')

Rose tinted glasses and expert opinion are the two that get me.

"In fact" and "in truth" follwed by a statement of conjecture

Hater is one that gets thrown around should you disagree with someone.

The misuse of your, you're, there, their and they're bothers me no end.

Your not wrong their Ranjit.

Visceral, even after reading the definition I still don't understand it, or how to use it.

I used 'wax lyrical' just the other day. Guilty of 'as...alluded to' also.

One that annoys me, which is nothing to do with boxing is people saying '....hell, even...'.

Just because I can't imagine anyone starting a sentence with 'Hell', idiotic and unnatural.

Looking at the list, my visceral feeling is that fingers isn't a fan of my work. Stylistically I'm all wrong for him. FACT.

Not really a term, but as a mod one that does my head in is PM's asking to be banned as they are sick of the place/spending too much time on here etc only to ask to come back within a week, or come back under another name.

Ha, might get to indulge in some S relating banning this weekend. Trust me, if Villa lose in the FA Cup final it will be an extremely brave/criminally stupid man who tests me on that particular issue Saturday night.

With regard to your first point there are a damned sight more than Truss who have done it.

You also know you're reading this forum too often when you start to picture in your head what the regular posters look like and are like in person.

I think the truth is somewhere in between - Chris when he comes down from writing his next article atop mount Sinai long enough to try settle a philistine quarrel with an extended epic the likes of which Homer would be proud.
