Re: Cincinnati Masters
Can't see any result tomorrow for Murray than a straight sets loss - only consolation being that it's not likely to be as bad as the O2 thrashing. I'd predict something like 6-4 6-2.
As we know, Fed now needs to win the title to get the no.2 seed at the US Open. Obviously that's really valuable to him - to get a 50/50 chance of Nishikori instead of Djokovic in his half of the draw (quite a big difference given Nishikori's physical frailties but then again Djokovic's arm could fall off at any time!). But what about Djokovic - I was thinking he'd much rather be sure that Federer, rather than Murray, would be in the other half - but now I'm not so sure. What do the Djokovic supporters here think? I think Djokovic would be confident that he could beat either of them in BO5 sets, but that due to style of play, beating Murray takes a lot more out of him so he'd prefer not have to go through him to get to the final. (Of course, I say that knowing that either Murray or Djokovic are going to get a beatdown from Stan in the QF anyway, haha!).

Re: Cincinnati Masters
Murray's contrary enough to beat Roger tomorrow, but I can't see it. Andy's serve looked generally impressive and of course he's always in every service game
Likely to be the night match as well, so the slower conditions would give the Scot a better chance
Whatever happens in the next couple of days, it's very hard to see who other than the Top 3 could win the US this year. All are playing far better than a year ago

Fed in absolute( starts with a g ) mode in this tourny. Man, I wish he had played Rafa. Too bad us open has been slowed so much. Cinci used to mirror Ashe stadium surface.
Lopez at the handshake "you were f'ing flying all over the place"
Fed "ah yes, I have a few more years left, you do too"

Re: Cincinnati Masters
Murray looking tired and coming through long matches, having won Toronto last week. Fed looking fresh and steaming through the draw... Can only see a Federer win. In fact, another two gruelling battles may be the last thing Murray needs.
Still, think Murray has a great shout in New York.

Both men's semis on in afternoon session. Women's semis in the evening. Novak/Dolgo on first. Can't see Murray beating Federer especially given the amount he has played over the last 10 days. Would have favoured Federer anyway as I don't think Murray has worked out a game plan to counter Federer's current style of play. If Federer's serve is working he will win.

Not just the last 10 days .....I believe Murray has actually played more tennis during the season to date than anyone else on Tour. But I still don't think this, of itself, rules out another match win today.
Your point re the Federer serve is key. There have been other times when he has breezed through early rounds only to dip significantly at the business end - most notably this year's W of course where he produced that masterclass in the semis, but could not replicate a similar level in the title decider.
Jahu - no guarantees from me, sorry

If Federer had shaved for all his night matches, he would have been a shave faster. He is slower by a mile.
Murray is playing the attrition game as he has shown in all matches. His coaches are killing his natural game. Gasquet was a hoot in the second set. Every service game and every rally was deja vu. The exact same shots repeated, Murray DHBH CC to Gasquet SHBH CC.

Just watched the murray dimitrov highlights. Good grief Murray's tactics were so f. boring. If he gets it on his forehand, loop it high to Dimi's backhand. If he gets it on his backhand, roll it into dimi's backhand. So boring and actually bad for murray because he can't beat even better retrievers like djokovic or Wawrinka's on fire playing like that, and it's hard to turn on the aggression just for single matches.

Dolgo winning the set with a first serve % of 40%. Very poor from Novak who didn't hit a single groundstroke winner.

Yes, I was also surprised how much Murray was about attrition only in the bits I have seen so far this tournament. But if it gets him #2 ranking in the world, he will continue to play that way.laverfan wrote:Murray is playing the attrition game as he has shown in all matches. Re: Cincinnati Masters
This is the kind of performance Dolgo has been due for a long while.
With his variety, he's exactly the kind of player who should be able to give Novak a hard time.
Only way he loses this is if he collapses physically (which is always his Achilles heel).

Not sure.
His game style is so high risk, if his level drops or he goes for it too much that can change things.

Re: Cincinnati Masters
Murray's coaches clearly aren't "killing his natural game". They have done a fantastic job with him. He clearly is struggling with tiredness this week - unsurprisingly after Canada - and he has therefore looked miles short of his normal standard. Frustrating, as its going to cost him another defeat to Fed.
