RSA vs Japan
First topic message reminder :
There's no thread for this one - I think SA so far look less than impressive. They're trying to play at a high tempo but making mistakes, whilst the Japanese are also playing at that tempo and looking promising. They're certainly hitting hard in the tackle.
RSA should eventually win at a canter, but I wonder what will be said in the aftermath. Please use this thread to discuss that.

Oh wow. The greatest upset in rugby history.
So brave, so determined.
Well done Japan. There aren't enough superlatives to do it justice.

South Africa were 1/100 or less to win that. Biggest upset by a mile I'd say and it doesn't happen often in any sport.

JUST UNBELIEVABLE.
They took SA up front and won.
Should have been a penalty try before but the ref bottled it.
FANTASTIC JJJJJAAAAPPPPAAAANNNN!!!!!!

I thought South Africa were going to win the tournament. Japan? Amazing. 32 - 34. Japan scored so many points against them and won in extra time.

Wow! Amazing win for Japan! As much as I'm a fan of South Africa, I'm absolutely delighted for Japan.
Think South Africa will still go through.
Watch out Scotland!

You just don't get such upsets in rugby union - it is too gruelling, energy sapping for minnows to defeat giants like South Africa.

I've lost £100 betting on this after liking the look of the spread bets in play, but I honestly couldn't care less, that's one of the most incredible games of any sport I've ever seen

Bloody hell how are we going to top that? One of the best sporting events I've ever witnessed. Absolute balls on them to go for the win.

Well done Japan. Hard to tell whether SA could now lose to Scotland or Samoa, or backlash and destroy them both

Re: RSA vs Japan
I enjoyed it. I said on the quota thread that the side was.ponderous. I said it was old. I didn't think we'd lose to Japan, but I was concerned when I realised they aren't going away.

Yeah upsets are extremely rare in Rugby Union. If it's true SA were 100/1 to win this is indeed one of the biggest upset ever in all sports.

Re: RSA vs Japan
Yeah I think we need to give plenty of credit to Eddie Jones.
Very good coach...and got his team perfectly ready.
Many of the top teams should take note of the pride, passion and courage the Japanese played with.

my wife only watched the post match celebrations by the japanese and shes in floods of tears....oh my god.
i feel for SA massively. but lets give all the credit to Japan. that decision to take the scrum at the end was the bravest decision and declaration of belief i have ever seen.

If you're from anywhere other than South Africa and you weren't screaming at the TV when Japan scored the winning try, you shouldn't be watching sport. Just fantastic.

Just saw bits and pieces of this but the energy and commitment Japan put into everything was just unbelievable. So who from this group is going to join them in the quarter finals?

yes, its not about wanting SA to lose at all. it was about celebrating the bravery, skill and effort of the massive underdogs.

Re: RSA vs Japan
That was the most unbelievable i have seen in a long time.
I really thought SA would out a huge score in Japan. Never did i think Japan would come any where near winning.
But well done to Japan a well deserved win.
