Would love Browne to pull this one off. Browne is a natural HW and Hayes physique may not be functional for HW boxing as its what he has built with weights on his lay off.

Catchweight is right vintage Haye alright. Only Haye can get a title shot after the De Morne debacle.

Don't particularly want to defend Haye but Fury has said he will not fight him under any circumstances. If this is his stance what is Haye meant to do, to my mind targeting the other belt holders is the only option open to him. If fury is not on the table he needs to aim for Wilder and or the winner of Martin Joshua, whether we like it or not entering those negotiations with Browne's belt helps his cause.

It's not a fight that particularly excites me, but an understandable enough one.

C'mon, it's a decent opponent - this will tell us more than Shannon Briggs or Malik Scott anyway. An unbeaten, proper big heavyweight - who's just beaten somebody actually quite good. Beat Browne, then it's time for the likes of Povetkin, Wilder, etc.

Apparently a 42 year old Fres Oquendo is mandatory despite coming off a failed a title attempt and failed drug test in 2014 and never having really registered any sort of notebale win. I think this might register as the most inexplicable mandatory oppononents I have heard of.

Browne would probably be better off taking the money for a Haye fight. I watched his last fight which was enjoyable, but the standard was domestic level at best. He wont be hanging onto his title for long one way or another.

What a joke as per usual for boxing! Problem is I believe not only are the WBA happy to do this but so is Browne which is the problem with boxing today. How can a guy having not fought in 2 years AND a loss AND a failed drug test be a mandatory?!?

You expect nowadays for a boxer to have an easy payday fight for first defence but this, if true, should be condemned!

Well, given Haye says he wants a fight and Lucas says 'No", it doesn't make him look like much of a fighter does it?

That was my point... The heavyweight division needs less sh1t talkers and more fighters and he'd be s prime example of that thus proving his point. It was obviously a bit too subtle!

Browne has said he is contracted to fight Oquendo, think Haye felt as though be could jump the queue, very unusual for him!! Browne accepted the Chagaev fight with the winner having to face Oquendo as part of the WBA tournament. Ortiz Ustinov is also part of it. Would much rather see Haye in against Browne, though. I think Browne is simply showing Haye is trying to get headlines by using his name. Weird world we live in now, imagine predicting five years ago that Haye would be using Browne's name for headlines.

He's using the WBA belt to make headlines, doubt anybody outside of boxing really knows who Lucas Browne is.

Good point. I don't classify him as a real champion anyway, this "regular" belt stuff is utter nonsense. In my eyes, he's a fighter who now holds a genuinely good win at HW and has shown himself to be a contender. But Fury holds the WBA, or rather the WBA super... Sheesh...

I'll check him out, never heard of him before now, he's ranked 8th by the WBO, but I think that ranking is boosted due to him fighting for the "WBO European Title" not fought anyone of note, so we might see a slightly improved De Mori! Haye KO by round 2 this time?

He's beaten opposition with a record of 203-154-6 and is probably ranked outside the top 100.
