Follow the Sun

Watching Follow the Sun at the moment. I don't know much about Hogan, but there are bits there that relate to my knowledge of him, like his concentration on the course. However, much of the story centres on his friendship with Chuck Williams, supposedly a fellow tour pro. Cary Middlecoff also features, and Jimmy Demaret, and while I've heard of those two, Williams' is a name with which I'm not familiar. Was he a real person or was he just a plot device for the film?

Fantastic line in the film - coming back from his accident, his wife suggests he hits some balls, and he's delighted. He asks her to arrange for someone to collect the balls, to which she replies 'Hit 'em far and straight and I'll shag for you!' fnaar fnaar
