Diego Costa said: "Conte sent me a message saying I'm not in his plans for Chelsea so I'll have to find a way out"

Lukaku must be in the bag, but Atletico route is blocked for Costa & possibly China. Wonder if Jose takes an interest?

I absolutely loathe him as a player for a rival club, if he joined Utd though I know I'd love him!

Jose had history with Cesc in Spain. Signed him. Sold Mata & then patched things up with him at United. Doesn't really matter what's go on, money talks & it's a World Cup year, whereby Costa can't afford five months on the bench.

United need that killer instinct & to become ruthless again. Costa delivers that & Jose knows it.

I don't think he wants China. Wonder if he'll go on loan or just sit as backup? Batshauyi also annoyed by the prospect of another season on the bench

The 600k a week they offered him in Jan was a decent makeweight. Whether that's still on the table after the reduction to 3 overseas players is probably a key question.

Bookies convinced it's China, with AC a distant 2nd.

Van Dijk deal was a total mess. Suspect more than approach, the leak was the problem. It was all over the media that Van Dijk had chosen Liverpool because he had personally spoken to Klopp. It makes Southampton look like chumps so Liverpool have had to back off. I think with £75 million being touted, it really isn't worth it. I expect Van Dijk will inevitably leave now and join Chelsea or Manchester City.

Lukaku to Chelsea for £80m is the worse kept secret.

Word from the Everton side is that it will be confirmed early next week. We'll struggle to replace his goals, but its a no brainer for £80m.

He still has potential to be world class and can already win games by himself, but he also disappears in games to often.

You know what I mean. It weakens their negotiations, not for this deal but for other teams as well. Liverpool are the stupid party in this deal, the stupid part is leaking parts of the deal before Southampton had agreed a fee, meaning we had to cancel the deal. That doesn't mean that it isn't also true, that Southampton challenged Liverpool on it because they don't want to be walked over by Liverpool and other sides and had they let the deal go ahead, they'd have looked weak.

I think Southampton have done well. They have obviously given the idea that it will be a lot of money, but also told Liverpool to f*** off. They have the moniker of a selling club but this has been good for their standing

That's what I am saying!!

The steps Southampton took were to stop them looking like chumps. If they had let this deal go ahead without complaint, other clubs would feel comfortable just walking over them. By showing that they will take these actions, they've prevented themselves looking like chumps.

Liverpool played this totally the wrong way, it was clear after the discussions with Klopp that they thought it was a foregone conclusion that the deal would be done. Southampton have shown them that it won't work that way.

They're getting 60m for a defender with limited CL experience.

Nobody's going to hold Liverpool tapping up VVD against them, I suspect they're probably more ****ed off with Liverpool's approach in general, and a similar thing probably occurred with the Lallana and Lovren signings. While Liverpool serve a ban on signing academy kids for a similar thing.

I am agreeing. It's a principle thing and it has a lot more to do with parts of the deal being leaked well before anything was agreed than it has to do with the tapping up itself or even that they are desperate to keep the player.

I would love Liverpool to go after Costa now. Won't happen I know, but he would improve our team hugely. 80 million seems a huge amount of money to pay for Lukaku.

If Sakho struggled under Klopp because of professionalism, there is absolutely no way Diego Costa would survive. I'd give it 3 days before he's been sent to the reserves.  Laugh

Don't think that comes as a major surprise. Imagine if not for the injury, he'd have been retained, but considering he's likely to be missing for six months and on mega wages it's best to end things there.

Not a surprise at all. Cant see anybody touching him this side of the new year, we'll see what happens then and whether a short term contract can be agreed depending on what we do this summer

Brings me on to Morata. Deal edging closer although I'll still only believe it once he's signed on the line and holding the shirt. I like him from what ive seen

Also rumours that rooney refusing to take a pay cut and will see out his last year. If im honest, and it sounds harsh because he has been a great player, but id just pay up his contract and release him. If he stays we'll feel inclined to play him next year and he really isn't good enough anymore. Its a shame how quick his decline has been

€73m being reported for morata. Dunno whether thats including add ons or not

The fee for perisic is a stumbling block. Inter want 50m and woodward doesnt see more than 35m. I expect there to be a middle ground met here as inter need to find 30m from somewhere to pass ffp so probably wont be too difficult reach an agreement

I dont know much about perisoc but trust mourinho. As an out and out winger o would love to see united to go 442 next uear with mhiki right, perisoc left and herrera and pogba middle with morata and rashford or martial up top......wont happen though as i expect we'll go 433

Perisic is always an absolute must at Euro or WC fantasy teams. Hugely talented player, but at club level, it a different story. Similar to Poldolski, in those terms.

If you're going to bid that much for Morata, why not chuck in a 90m for Kane and see what Spurs do.

Don't think Morata is in that top bracket and Kane can hit the ground running instantly

I think bidding for kane would be a wasted exercise. Levy is a swine to do business with, i think you'd be looking at north of the reported M'Bappe projected cost (and then some). Probably an entire transfer budget on one player

Dont get me wrong id love him. Best striker in the league, but he has no reason to leave spurs for us

Just don't see Morata being the kind of prolific frontman that wins trophies. Not for 60m

Morata is pretty much what United need, a straight-forward chance taker/poacher, who is clinical in the box. He doesn't really have any stand-out attributes, but has previously linked up with Pogba at Juve, so understanding should be immediately there.

Money is some object still. No team can just spend an endless amount. Kane would be a lot of money, and probably not willing anyway.

Lindelof was in the pipeline for a while. Not surprised United bailed on Keane, no CL experience & not good enough for where United want to go. Expect him to go to Everton or that level. Wouldn't surprise me to see Phil Jones loaned to Burnley to replace the outgoing Keane.
