D.Jeter- Road to 3000

Im surprised that none of the Yankee fans on here have started a thread on this! So it's up to a Red Sox fan, such as myself to pay respect to Mr. Jeter and his 3000 hits (This is hard for me but easier as the days go by) As someone who dislikes everything NY Yankee, Im doing this out of a love for baseball and finally tipping my hat to a long time 'rival' on a job well done.

As of Saturday June 11th, Jeter has 2,991 hits, 9 shy of joining the great Roberto Clemente on 3,000 hits. He went 0 for 4 on Sat. against Cleveland with two strikeouts. Today he faces Josh Tomlin who is 7-3 with a 3.71 ERA on the season, his ERA is 3.86 on the road. Jeter is 1 for 3 against Tomlin in his career. Sundays game begins at 1.05 ET.

The Yankees have 5 more games at home this week versus Cleveland and Texas, if Jeter wants to get the 9 hits he needs at the Stadium, before going on the road to Chicago for 3 games next weekend.

Was saving until he actually got his 3000, healer.
It'd be great for him to get it at home.

Thats a fair point but I thought once he got inside 10 runs needed it would be nice to track his approach to the 'magic' number.

Well Jeter got 2 hits this afternoon against the Indians to take his total to 2,993. Seven hits needed.
A milestone was reached today in the game. Orlando Cabrera, of the Indians, got his 2,000 hit with a single past Jeter in the second inning.
The Yankees play the Indians again tomorrow night at 7.05 ET, the game is on ESPN(Sky 417) at midnight.

Yeah, I'd like to see him get to 3,000 at home too. I know I'm a Red Sox fan, but I've always been a fan of Jeter's.

Well, it looks like he may not reach the milestone at home now. In NYY's 1-0 defeat last night Derek made another hit bringing it down to only six needed, but he limped off the field with a calf strain. Girardi expects that he won't be available for tonight's game.

Jeter was diagnoised with a 'Grade 1 calf strain' the mildest form it seems. Any decision on playing time will be made later today but as Gaelic-Warrior said he wont play tonight versus Ogando. At this point it's believed the 36 year old may miss 2-3 games, which is the Rangers home series.
But, I wouldn't be surprised to see him back Wednesday in the DH role against CJ Wilson, Jeter is 5 for 14 against Wilson. Thursday's pitcher is Derek Holland, he's 5 for 12 lifetime against him. I only believe in Jeters quick return as he said he would "love" to get 3,000 hits at home but I doubt he can get the six needed in 2 games.
Hits total now at 2,994.

Jeter was already scheduled to DH on Wednesday so hopefully tonight will be the only change Girardi has to make.

it may sound selfish but I hope he sits out a couple or three games and he gets it when they come home to play the Rockies on the 24th. I'd like to be there when he gets it.

Looks like you might get your wish 'TheBigPhilbowski', looking more likley that Jeter will sit a week (if he's not put on DL) missing the Rangers and then road trips to the Cubs and Reds, where there is no DH of course and then be back in the line-up for the Rockies at home.

With Jeter spending the weekend in Trenton it seems his quest for 3000 is only days away from starting up again. Maybe Monday, the 4th, in Cleveland. The 2011 'All Star' only needs 6 for 3000.

Looks like Jeter will face Josh Tomlin tonight, he is 2 for 6 against Tomlin life time. Game is at 6.35 ET, no doubt to let them fire off lots of fireworks after the game.

Jeters come back game had him going 0-4.
Maybe a move down the order might be better for Jeter and the Yanks in the long run. His days of being a lead off hitter are over, right? BA is now .256 with an OBP of .320

Jeter faces Carlos Carasco tonight, he's 8-4 with a 3.54 ERA for the season. Jeet is 1 for 3 lifetime facing Carasco.

Jeter is now 'just' four off the magic mark. A single and double in Cleveland help the Yankees win.

ESPN is showing the Yankees @ Indians at midnight tonight. The matchup is Hughes V Masterson. Doubt Jeter will pick up the four runs needed but you never know. Jeter is 5 for 12 against Masterson.

Jeter picked up hit number 2,997 last night in Cleveland, a double to right, in his last at bat of the game. Now the Yankees are home to face the Rays for 4 games, Thursday to Sunday, before we break for the All Star game. The pitchers Jeter will face in those games are;
Niemann (3-4) Hellickson (8-7) Price (8-7) and Shields (8-6)
Thats if Jeter plays all four, I wouldn't be surrprised if he's rested for one. Either Thursday or Friday. ESPN America will be showing the Yankees and Rays live on Saturday at 6pm. Keep an eye out for late programme changes as 3000 gets closer.

A first inning double puts Jeter now 2 away from from 3000. he went 1 for 5 on the night. Tonight he goes againist Hellickson, he only has 2 at bats against him and he's 1 for 2, for whats its worth, but Jeter is looking very likely to pick up the 2 hits he needs now this weekend. See last post for pitching matchups this weekend.

Due to last nights rainout no advancement for Jeter. The game will likey be made up in Sept. Jeter needs 2 hits in 2 games to get 3000 at home and before the All Star break.

Only because you know the only other hitter to reach 3,000 hits via the Home Run route was Wade Bogs. (Any spelling error entirely intentional.)
