2023 ICC Cricket World Cup Tipping Competition

Competition Rules:

Pick the Winner:

and

Pick the Margin:

N - Narrow
C - Comfortable
E - Easy
T - Thrashing

Narrow	0-15 runs or super over	1-2 wickets or 0-6 balls remaining* or super over
Comfortable	16-49 runs	3-5 wickets or 7-18 balls remaining*
Easy	50-99 runs	6-8 wickets or 19-30 balls remaining*
Thrashing	100+ runs	9+ wickets or 31+ balls remaining*

* The lowest fitting tier of wickets and balls remaining will apply.
For example, a win by 9 wickets with 1 ball remaining or a win by 1 wicket with 20 balls remaining are both Narrow.

Please get your selections in at least an hour before the toss of the first match for each 'block' of 15 matches. No points earned for late entries.

If for any reason you want to change your selection or winning margin as the tournament progresses, just post it up here and I'll give it a "like" meaning I've taken the change on board. Of course, it goes without saying, no changes will be accepted during the course of an actual live match.

Due to time differences - I'll try and get the Leader Board up asap. Might be a bit of a delay (a few hours) but I'll keep you all regularly updated.


Scoring:

25 points for picking correct winning team
20 points for picking correct winning margin (N,C,E,or T)
75 points for correct pick tied result (D) ... if the match is tied before they go into Super Overs... regardless of the end Result.
12 points for one rung off winning margin
0 points for more than one rung off winning margin but you still get 25 points for the win.
0 points for a 'No Result'.

Double points for nominated *Golden Matches* (GM) for one match in each 'block' of 15 matches.

One GM for Matches 1 - 15
One GM for Matches 16 - 30
One GM for Matches 31 - 45

The 2 Semi Finals and the Final are also worth double points.

When you're making your selections for the 45 group matches you're essentially 'picking' your semi finalists and finalists anyway. You still get double points for those last three big matches. I don't want to complicate things too much. As you say, there's already a lot to think about just picking the winners and winning margins.

Please note that I'm also running the rugby world cup tipping comp concurrently and there are a similar number of matches. I want to keep things simple but challenging and not too complicated. It seems to be working quite well for the rugby world cup.

Have a look at the point scoring system there if you want to see how the winning margin method works. It's either an N, C, E, T or a D (for a Tied match in the cricket; since I've already used the "T"... so I went for a "D"). If in doubt, check the rules above. Even though there will be no actual tied results because of the super overs... if you think it will come down to that (i.e. a tied match) then go for the "D" and a possible 50 75 points.

Actually, I'll make it 75 points for a Tied match (D) just to tempt ourselves... a bit more than 45 points for a correct winning margin (25+20).

I didn't watch the match and only heard the result this morning that Pakistan had won by "6 wickets"... and didn't realise there were only 10 balls to spare. Therefore it's a Pakistan C... and not an E.

Thanks for picking that up. It's always better to have a second pair of eyes on the board.
It's has now been corrected above. Only 5 got it right; instead of 6... thus the "correct picks" percentage drops a touch.

Yes, all she had to do was basically copy and paste... then change the average and winning %.
