Hey guys, amongst all these different categories of favourites threads I thought I'd start a favourite actor thread.

My top 5 with my favourite films they're in, in no particular order

My Top 5 Actors

1) Jack Nicholson - Just a brilliant actor. To do such films ranging from One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest to As Good As It Gets. Such depth.

2) Daniel Day Lewis - By far the most artistic actor. He was great in Last Of The Mohicans, Gangs of New York, There Will Be Blood.

3) Robert De Niro - Has certainly got to be mentioned for Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Heat, Casino. Just a fan of his work.

4) Tom Hanks - He was quality in Philadelphia, Cast Away, Road to Perdition. I like how he is able to apply himself to any roles.

5) Denzil Washington - He is brilliant. I thought he was great in Training Day, Remember The Titans, American Gangster, Deja Vu, Just so many to name.

Good to see someone going back to the greats of the past.

The slight difficulty with this type of list is it is both genre and generation specific - someone that likes action films might end up listing Arnie, Bruce Willis, Stephen Segal etc, even though that rather stretches the definition of 'actor'. The fact that neither Arnie or Segal could act their way out of a wet paper bag doesn't make the films less enjoyable if you are in the right mood.

Anyway, for me a list of favourite great actors would include:
Henry Fonda - (12 Angry Men is just about my favourite all time film)

Sidney Poitier - (if 12 Angry Men is not my favourite film, In the Heat of the Night is)

Clint Eastwood - a great action fim maker but also a great actor (and cool as ...), as in Josie Wales, Unforgiven or Dirty Harry

Morgan Freeman - the beating heart of The Shawshank Redemption, and was almost sufficient to make Bruce Almighty watchable (although nothing could possibly redeem Evan Almighty)

Al Pacino - Godfather 2.

Morgan Freeman - he just seems to ooze class!
Christain Bale - Thought his performance in The Fighter was brilliant and also the Batman films.
Zach Galifianakis - Superb as Alan in the hangover films, although he could now be sterotyped like Stiffler (American Pie)
