Broad and Bresnan face Test battle

Probably has to be Bresnan, to be honest. Decent with the bat, and more consistent with the ball of late.

My attack would be Swann, Tremmers, Anderson and Bresnan.

As I've said before Broad is a wildcard, but can win a series on his own in one spell.

Bresnan is a nothing bowler. Gun barrel straight, medium pacer.

Broad should be given 1 Test

The aussie fan's were similarly dismissive of Bresnan before he helped England win the ashes.

Australia where a shadow of their old selves when Bresnan picked up a few cheap wickets.

I think Bresnan is an underated bowler, he's quicker than he looks and can bat a bit as well

Lets wait and see if Bresnan ever takes a 5 wicket bag in Test or a Test hundred.

So do the Stats make Broad better than Bresnan then, only as you said that Harbajan getting to 400 test wickets meant nothing? Sorry, Im confused...

At the moment I think Bresnan is better than Broad due to being in form

First opportunity since the 5th test in Australia to put out this bowling attack and I can't see any evidence to play someone else. All are fit but I 'm not totally confident about their current form. Perhaps this short break will help Swann and Anderson while Bresnan has a week to improve his bowling in the CC.

We can't ignore what form does to a cricketer. Granted Broad has a test hundred and 3 5 for's but at the same time, I could counter argue that Bresnan has 3 first class hundreds to his name and 4 5 for's. Whilst there is a dip in class at both levels, it shows they are both capable of taking wicets and scoring runs.

However, on current form, Broad couldn't bowl me out, which is why myself and other posters feel that Bresnan should be considered.

The England selectors left Broad out of the one-day side which may give us a clue that he'll be left out of the tests. If it was my decision I would give Broad one more test if he's still under-performing I would leave him out and bring in Bresnan.

But Liam what exactly has he done to deserve one more test?if he was just going through a bad patch then fine.but it is not just a bad patch.his overall test record is poor.Barring an odd spell here and there he has always been a mediocre test bowler.he is a good odi bowler but he is not a great test bowler.

Medium pacer? He bowls an heavy ball in the high 80's do you just not watch when he plays and go on what he was like a few years ago? We have three other match winning bowlers in Swann, Anderson and Tremlett all better than broad, we need someone who can keep it tight, which Broad can't.

im a huge fan of broad, but i think bresnan should play.

Broad will certainly play at Lords, Flower and Strauss wanted him to go back to Notts and take wickets. Broad do so, and how, another 5 fer.

Broad gets 5, Bresnan gets 4. Bresnan got 40 odd to add, Broad hasn't batted so far.
Tough call, Bresnan was the better bowler in ODIs when both of them played, and he's a better bat. More importantly, Broad has been struggling for impact in international cricket in recent times across formats.
Think the England management will give Broad one more chance, particularly as he got a 5fer.

The way our top 6 has been performing, I don't care about which of Bresnan or Broad is a better bat, plus there's very little between the two. We need to pick the best bowler because we're facing the world's best team.

While India's bowling attack may not have the class of the 1980s WI or Australia 2000s, it is much better in quality than that of what the Lankans presented earlier in the summer. Zaheer Khan is real world class, and the rejuvenated Ishant Sharma can be a challenge for anyone. Harbhajan Singh, has his inconsistencies and is a touch defensive with the ball these days, still can be a handful on his days. Sreesanth is a fine tallent who has caused problems to the SA batters the last time he played, and India's backup bowling of Praveen Kumar, and Munaf Patel is better than most of Lanka's first chois pacers whom the English faced this summer.
The piont is that a bit of batting depth can come in handy for any side in such a huge series, and England has, in recent history, enjoyed the benefits of the same. Ashes 09, then the series in SA, Pakistan last summer, the batting contributions of Graeme Swann and Stuart Broad were often match turning.
