The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Welcome to the virtual rugby pub - a place where you can come in for a sly beverage and discuss whatever's on your mind, or just eavesdrop on the regulars if you fancy a break from all the rugby chat.
The only rule in this pub is one of mutual respect for everyone in it, oh and no defacing the Tommy Bowe photo on the bar. That's a banning offence
So pull up a chair....what'll it be?

I've just seen a teaser trailer for 'The Amazing Spiderman'. Not as excited as I am for the latest Batman, but I am looking forward to it a bit. Plus it's got Rhys Ifans in it, so he'll be good anyway.
A Four Nations Rugby League double header at Wembley (Eng v Aus, NZ v Wal).
Teatime. Glad you have hot water.

ah yeah remember you talking about that now the other day.
I can scarce believe my eyes, just watching Sky Sports news and they have actually dropped the Llanelli from the Scarlets' name. Hasn't taken them that long to catch on....

I'm surprised they even found time to get a mention in there at all, with all the news about the transfers that aren't happening!

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
ha I know Notch!
The best thing was last week. "There are 34 days until the new football season kicks off" followed by mind numbingly boring interviews with players who weren't moving anywhere, weren't injured, and basically had no news. Awful.
Don't they know that there are other sports out there?!

Yes indeed. My Saturday morning 5 aside football team just won our third match in a row. If NOTW was still in circulation I feel certain our phones would have been hacked in order to print some scandalous story about it. Just surprised sky sports haven't picked up the slack.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
To be fair the Barclays Premiership drew in 13,527,815 fans last year.
Last season the Magners League, Guinness Premiership and Top 14 combined didn't match that. In fact it wouldn't even match the 2nd tier soccer competition the Football Championship which drew in 9,875,832 fans.
Total figure for the 4 pro soccer leagues in England last year - 29,252,189.
They are clearly just basing it on numbers.

Those stats make the failure of Murdoch's bid for full control of BSkyB seem even more significant.

Rev, Willy - you should both feel hard done by. Two massive stories they've missed there.
Stag - true, doesn't make it right though. Makes it even more irritating really.

To be fair though, watching most 24 hour news programmes is excruciating. SSN is especially bad.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Dreamer why would it make it MORE irritating though. I can understand it not being a comfort but why is it more irritating.
Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Because that just sums up Sky for me. They don't bother to diversify due to "figures" How do they know how many millions of viewers they'd get if say the covered the tour de france in July? or focused more on athletics. They could very well replace or even increase their viewing figures if you take into account the number of footballing viewers they'd lose over the summer if they didn't focus on the non-transfer rudey poo. Also that way they'd actually be reporting on sports news.
But they won't even attempt it, because of the figures. Drives me nuts.

ah you're lucky with that then Stag. It's just so annoying that there's all these amazing sporting events going on right now, and the back pages of the papers and reports on tv are only going to be made of Tevez' non-move from Man City. That's not sporting news, that's just gossip.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
I'll hold of the for the minute, am still at work, but shall have one when I get home about half 10.
Little girlies are all good Gibbo, but the wife is having a bit of a struggle at the moment which is part of why I have been so busy. She's got a bone spur in her hand which has grown into another bone and is wearing it away so causing a lot pain and she can't use her hand. Doctors misdiagnosed it as a cyst initially but have now, after 2 MRI scans worked out what it is. Just waiting to see the consultant to sort out having an op.
That sounds like not much fun for her I hear you say, and you are right, but it gets worse. Last week she slipped doing something and her knee ballooned up. After trip to hospital we found that she has damaged a ligament and they wanted to put her on crutches, except she can't because she can't grip the crutch with her left hand because of the bone spur. So she has one crutch to hobble around on.
A sorry sight it is, and a busy man I am trying to keep up with all the things she can't do at the moment.
Ah well, at least the HC fixtures are out now, pretty happy with how they fell for us.
Gutted I couldn't make it up to London for the drinkies with Asbo et al though!

Hey prop. Yeah I think so mate, was a great idea, but interest seemed to wane pretty quickly, and to be honest for the reasons stated above I am pretty strapped for time. Shame though, could have been a good laugh.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
To me running, Tour de France, swimming etc are as boring as anything.
But give me soccer, rugby, hurling, gaelic football, rugby league and even I've enjoyed watching volleyball, handball, ice hockey, basketball, american football etc.
I think its that I prefer games than sports.

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
yeah could be that Stag. But then there's millions of people out there that prefer things like cycling, swimming, athletics etc and they get pretty limited coverage on the more "popular" tv channels, although Eurosport do a really decent job I guess.

To be fair Dreamer, I've just gone to the Sky Sports homepage and the Top 3 headlines are:
1 - Indian Summer (cricket)
2 - Double for Boassan Hagen (cycling)
3 - Transfer latest (soccer)

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Pete, I've seen it. Its got bad reviews but I think its an good movie.
If your watching it from a rugby point of view you'll be disappointed. But if you leave your rugby anorak aside you'll enjoy it.
Amazing people could be so matter of fact about racism and it was great to see a unifying factor.

Cool, think I'll give it a go. Watched Sherlock Holmes last night (the recent one with Robert Downey Jnr) and the A-Team the night before and really enjoyed both. Hopefully Invictus will be good as well.

Jayz Pete, bless her. TG they have diagnosed it and it will operated on and fixed. Still with the leg and hand situation - it near renders MrsLDC incapacitated. That must be so frustrating for her.
Not to mention the stress on you and the added workload. Im sure your older girls help out yeah?
Man, ye guys need a holiday. My hero.
So, looking forward to the HC my man? I know we have the ST's & RWC in between, but nothing stirs the heart like seeing the dates and planning it all in. Bath v Leinster should be a decent meet up. LI vs Cardiff double?
Any others ye regs? Munster v Scarlets double meetup?

Re: The Dew Drop Inn Virtual Rugby Pub
Ah we muddle through Gibbo, just means I have to get me own from the fridge.
I think we have Cardiff in R2 on the Friday night. Hoping to make it, but won't know for sure until much nearer the time. Love the HC, can't wait.

Hi Pete, sorry to hear about your Missus. I hope she gets the problems sorted soon
I have been very busy since the weekend so I haven't even had a chance to read back. Anything interesting?
Ulster have two tough games to start the HC this year. Pity the Leicester game doesn't tie in with any of the other Irish provinces. I had hoped to make a weekend of it. Any Scarlets regs going to Franklyn Gardens for the Northampton game. Possibilities of a meet then.
Keep me posted on FB if anything crops up.
Ta for now

Pete, you can get BBC in Ireland via Sky or Free to Air boxes. I enjoyed Invictus,it made the plane journey seem shorter everything. As Stag said, the rugby isn't great in it but that's not really what the film is about. You've probably started watching by this stage.

Message for Puma,if she pops in. That Microsoft thing is a scam they have rung my home a number of times, gets pretty annoying. What I find is fun is to pish them off by going over to the microwave and describing it and say you have difficulty finding the program. All you see is the setting for a baked potato. They will hang up quickly.
Pete,it's a long enough movie over 2 hours from what I remember. Just in case you wanted an early night.
