Guilty pleasures - Page 4 Empty Guilty pleasures

Post by Luckless Pedestrian Tue 16 Aug 2011, 11:22 am

First topic message reminder :

Is there an album you love even though you know it's naff as hell? Let's put 'cool' to one side and be honest about things!

My guilty pleasure is Year of the Cat by Al Stewart. Good tunes, great musicianship, an excellent album all round, even though it's so middle of the road you can hear the white lines on it.

I never liked that Divinyls song. I thought the singer's voice was really irritating. Still, I think it's fair to say that it proved a point - do a crap song which appears to be about female masturbation and it sells...there's better songs about male masturbation which haven't done as well which proves Luckless point somewhat.

That's not a bad tune by The Vapours. I was thinking about The Buzzcocks "Orgasm Addict" though. Captures uncontrollable teenage lust perfectly.

Are you kidding? Its a great tune. Christine Amphlett's vocals are a bit odd, but quite sexy...match her looks perfectly.

Its only the actual lyrics that make it a guilty pleasure, in my humble opinion. Daft but enjoyable. Wink

As to proving Luckless' point...I thought it was common knowledge that blokes are crude and shallow! Laugh

I've got the Pet Shop Boys hits album PopArt on my mp3.

While I seldom choose to listen to it, if any of the songs come on when it's on shuffle they never get skipped.

Not sure the Pet Shop Boys are a guilty pleasure anyway. I think they're actually underrated and too often dismissed as dated, simple pop whereas in reality they are brilliant songwriters and an all-time great of British music.

There, I said it.

Rolf Rules, OK.

Brilliant album. Mostly covers (...apart from the classics!)

Would Marina and the Diamonds count? Specifically "I'm not a Robot".

Other than that, I don't know.

Tears for Fears are ok.

The first three albums I bought were:

Frankie Goes to Hollywood - Welcome to the Pleasure Dome
Wham - Make It Big
Pet Shop Boys - Introspective

Never confused.

Most things by Justin Timberlake would probably be my guilty pleasures, the man is pretty good in fairness!
