The Rugby Football Union's governance "is broken", according to a report which a leading RFU official did not originally want to be published.

The BBC has obtained a copy of the report into the sacking of former chief executive John Steele.

Acting chief executive Martyn Thomas, who had initially threatened legal action over the report's publication, is heavily criticised.

His influence is such that Thomas is in a position where "he is the union".

RFU disciplinary officer Judge Jeff Blackett's report identified Thomas as a "major contributor" to leaks causing "reputational damage

Would it not have been better if they had asked somebody independent of the RFU to look into their dealings.
I would have thought that Jeff Blackett was too involved to be in charge of such a investigation.
It does make me wonder if the people in charge of our respective unions make decisions with the best interest of the game in their heart.

Frankly the whole workings of the RFU was likened by a famous ex-player
as the workings.Of the Vatican Council, and that puffs of smoke should
herald decisions at Headquarters.Writs for bringing the Game into Disrepute,Votes of No Confidence. It has all the trappings of a "Mad Hatters
TeaParty" and has become a farce,or more correctly a tragedy.
Perhaps it is the time for in the words of Oliver Cromwell,"IN Gods Name Go"
To the laymen they have been perceived a lot of "Alickadoos" or "Suits"self serving and doing little good.
That of course is simplistic but it needs a someone to take broom and clean out the stygian stable.
