USO day 12 09/09/11
First topic message reminder :
Hello homies n peeps,
Some contrasting styles to clash today
Murray V Isner - Hopefully Murray wins quickly; not sure I can endure any more of Isner (We got a lifetimes worth at W10). Murray in 3
The Nadull V A-Rod - In previous years this would have been an interesting one but today, I'm not so sure. A-Rod won't have enough steam to stay with The Nadull. The Nadull wins in four.
emancipator - Let there be sunshine.

It's crucial against Nadal to take the ball early and dictate. If yuo can't do that you do most of the running like Roddick did today...and that really kills you.
Murray knows that so he will have to be very agressive tomorrow.

Tenez you wrote two days ago that
" Lendl was robbed of a proper final after having to struggle crazy v Pat cash late in the evening (5 sets)"
Let's set the record straight.
I was at the stadium that day. Lendl played the first match which ended at about 4:00pm.
Evert vs Navratilova three sets followed. The five set Connors-McEnroe thriller started at 8pm and finished at about 11:30pm.
McEnroe went on to crush Lendl next day for his last major
title.
If Lendl was robbed playing at 11am then what about Sampras playing Hewitt in the night semifinal in 2000 and Safin next day.And in 2001 after beating three former US Open champions in a row( Rafter, Agassi, and Safin in the
night semifinal) had to play Hewitt the very next day.
With one day rest he defeated both of them in straight sets in the SFs. With less than 24 hours rest and legs ten years older than his opponents he lost to both youngsters in the finals. In a Federer like era( four Monday finals with a Sunday
rest) he could have won two more GSs. Inversely in a Sampras like era Federer could have won one less in 2008 when he faced Murray.
By the way the "day Lendl was robbed from a proper final" is still considered the greatest day in the history of the US Open. It was a "Super Saturday".

I think it is a bit of both really. Nadal has played excellently of that there is no doubt but Roddick just looks off the pace and his volleys and groundstrokes just have not been telling enough and does look tired or perhaps carrying an injury as Andy Roddick is no quitter.

I quite fancy Murray to take Nadal out tomorrow. Provided Murray can avoid playing short length.

I am less hopeful. Andy has been patchy throughout the tournament as todays match showed perfectly. He has looked better in slam events to be honest whilst Rafa has improved with each game here at Flushing Meadows and desperately needs to up his game and cut out these mental blocks. If he does that he has a chance certainly but I fear Nadal will win in four sets. Hope I am wrong though.

Nadal too good for Roddick. It's difficult to tell just how well Nadal is playing. Roddick is on a rant with the umpire.

Can't see Murray beating Nadal if I'm honest. Murray, like he showed at Wimbledon, can sustain his best for a set. Nadal at his current level is way ahead of Murray.

I disagree there. Murray has beaten Nadal in slams before but I just don't feel he is in that kind of form at the moment to pull off the win.

Right I got the schedule wrong...was nearly 30 years ago so you will forgive me for mixing up the then saturday order of play....considering I was in France and the USO was not always broadcasted. I thnk I deserve some points for remembering the 4 semi-finalists.
One point though...2 days is long reaction time!

He's beaten Nadal twice in a slam. US Open 2008, after Nadal had won 7 straight events and was pretty much running on fumes in the semi. The other was the Australian 2010. Nadal didn't play to this current level in either of those matches.CaledonianCraig wrote:We Are Number 1!!! wrote:Can't see Murray beating Nadal if I'm honest. Nadal was down 0-3 to Gilles Muller before the rain-break. Since then it has been: (R4) 6-3 (plus a TB) 6-1 6-2 ... (QF) 6-2 6-1 6-3.
Murray hasn't been too convincing and Nadal is the defending champion...

I don't see Murray having anything that could trouble Nadal. Murray will just be watching whilst full-stretch running passing shots whizz past, and as for trading forehands. . . well, Murray's going to break down sooner or later.

Nadal is so boring to watch. Even Hasse, Dolgo, Tipsy have more variety in their game. What an easy draw was given to Nadal? Not a single decent opponent till his run to the semis.

Re: USO day 12 09/09/11
Nadal hasn't dropped a set and over the last two days has been close to his very best. Murray was solid, but not overly great vs Young. Today vs Isner he went walk about and it almost bit himself in the backside. H2H on h/c is 5/4 to Nadal.CaledonianCraig wrote:We Are Number 1!!! wrote:He's beaten Nadal twice in a slam. Murray is going to hurt Nadal tomorrow. A 3 sets demolition of one dimensional Nadal.

Murray has to serve 60-70% 1st serves to stand a chance.droogle wrote:I don't see Murray having anything that could trouble Nadal. Murray will just be watching whilst full-stretch running passing shots whizz past, and as for trading forehands. . . well, Murray's going to break down sooner or later.

Re: USO day 12 09/09/11
If Murray attacks Nadal's backhand and not to let him whip that forehand, a 3 sets annihilation is very much possible.
And as per the law of averages Nadal has not been injured for long time now. All his loses have come when he gets injured, tomorrow might be the day for him to get injured again.

what happened to Roddick today, this looks like one of the most miserable performance on records. He didn't even run down the Nadal's shots for half of the match.......I don't understand, if he was injured why did he turn up to play at all?

Roddick's not physically good enough to rally with Nadal. If he doesn't get cheap points with his serve, he's pretty much got no back up plan.Jeremy_Kyle wrote:what happened to Roddick today, this looks like one of the most miserable performance on records. But even if he was injured, it doesn't explain those poor groundshots. If injured you go flat on every shot and try your chance. Ok he went to the net at teh beginning but he is not really blessed with skills there either.
Nadal's power was really impressive but Roddick certainly made it easy for him.

Yes, sure Nadal was red hot since the beginning but how to explain: ARod service laughable, his approach shots invariably ending in the mid court, him not chasing balls for the last two sets. It was suspiciously too easy for Nadal considering the way ARod played against Ferrer.

Freaking joke this's becoming with Nadal and Murray not getting tough opposition at all thus far...when will the likes of Gulbis, Dimitrov, Berankis etc start going deep in the majors to free us of this utterly boring top 4??
