The Best 20/20 Team Never Seen
First topic message reminder :
20/20 Cricket is relatively new when you consider test cricket began in the 19th century. Bearing this in mind, which players do you think would have had a ball at this form and what XI would you pick?
This team does not go back that far but nor do I
Greenidge
Botham
V Richards
D Jones
C Lloyd
Dev
D Lindsay (Wkt)
Hadlee
Harper
L Cairns
Garner

Another England and Warks opener who would have loved a knock at t20 is John Jameson.
Mind you, he would have to be hidden in the field!

Similar comments apply to Colin Milburn (England and Northants).

Re: The Best 20/20 Team Never Seen
Hi Guildford - kit bag at the ready - almost.
Checking on Wiki I think I was remembering this innings:
"His greatest innings, and his only Test century, was made in the Third Test against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1965-66. He made 185 off 255 balls and added 234 in even time with Geoff Boycott for the first wicket. It remains the highest score by an Englishman on the opening day of an Ashes Test"
From his overall stats I suspect he falls someway short of the greatest ever T20 side. But impressive nonetheless to add 234 in even time with G Boycott

Perhaps you should start a thread on the heaviest players to represent England. Flat Jack Simmonds I recall was no lightweight!guildfordbat wrote:Another England and Warks opener who would have loved a knock at t20 is John Jameson.

Corporal - very impressive by Barber as you outline.
I've just read that Barber largely gave up cricket in 1969, around the time I was starting to follow it. The England v Rest of the World series the following year got me hooked for life but that's another story for another thread!
Have a good break and don't forget the Owzat!

Corporal - I don't believe Flat Jack ever made an England appearance but he certainly was good enough to have done so given some of the bowling allrounder dross we had during his time. Certainly no light weight in any sense.
I'm too lazy to check now but believe Flat Jack didn't play county cricket until he was about 30 and was a club professional at Blackpool before that.

Guildford - you're right of course that he didn't play for England. By the way I always used to think his name was "flap jack Simmonds" -

Corporal - that's far more subtle than the ''Fat Jack'' he also got called!
