How to not be a sucker for love... Empty How to not be a sucker for love...

Post by Sugar Floyd Louis Thu 22 Sep 2011, 6:15 pm

in light of the 'Things I wished I knew 20 years ago' thread, not being 20 yet, there's a recurring theme in my relationships I thought some of you older guys could help out with.

Believe I am embarrassed to admit this but I am definitely a sucker for love, and can be totally blinded in a relationship. I've had girls use me for sex, been played etc and just never really realised till the relationship was finished 🤦

Funnily enough, I move on quick but over and over again I find myself never being on top, and it's led me to not being faithful.

So, to all you blokes out there who are in control of their fiances and aren't taken for a mug... how do you do it?!!

I was wondering lately, being the person I am who enjoys a chase or only going for stunning girls (that all seem to party a lot etc) should I maybe go for an average looking girl, who may not be so up her arse???? is that the trick?

Jay-z - one thing that helps to prevent yourself being taken for a mug in anything is knowing what you want, and what you expect from things, and having the self assertiveness to say so.

Cari - I'm not a pushover in life... just in relationships I guess lol and I understand what you mean by 'expect'.

No offence Jay-Z - it was the way it was written, it made me laugh Laugh

Do I relate?

I suppose I am a sucker for love. I like feeling needed, so I play up to it.

I've never been used for sex - which is a shame Laugh

I've never been unfaithful

I'm never in control of my wife. I am firmly under the thumb, and happy with it. There's no point fighting the inevitable. Plus if I was in charge of anything it would fall apart into chaos in a matter of days. So it's best to admit that she knows best, and have things go swimmingly instead.

Personally I'd definitely look beyond just looks, as cliche as that sounds. I could not abide living someone who wasn't intelligent as well. My main criteria for a girlfriend was always that they had to be as intelligent, or more intelligent than me.

I do miss elements of being single though. Though I was never a player. The repeated cycle of excitement and optimism on a night out, through drinking and ultimate failure - but still having a great night with friends - was a fun cycle to be a part of.

Hmmmm.... that's heavy. I've given too much of myself now. I need a drink Smile

It's not about being a pushover, it's about knowing what you want from a relationship. To be fair though, if you're not even 20 yet I don't expect you to be sure of what you want. It's a bit soon to be worrying so much about relationships at that age.

Hmm believe I've never been with an intelligent girl. Kind of stupid that I'm in education and haven't went for one.
