Announcement concerning 606v2
Hello all.
The forum has now been going for just over 6 months and since its inception, we have grown more quickly than any of us could ever have imagined.
We have exceeded well over the 3,000 member mark and are closing in on the half a million post mark, to which we owe you our thanks.
We have had some exciting link ups in these 6 months since launch, and continue to work hard for you, the members, to get exclusives.
From competitions and Q&As to a discounted shop and sponsored charity, the last 6 months have gone by in a blur. We hope to carry on in this vein over the coming months and years, and will be looking to get bigger names and prizes as we move forward.
However, as we gain more exposure, we have also come encountered some issues, too, and that is the reason why this message is going out to you.
I recently tried to get a mini interview with Robbie Savage whilst covering the John Hartson Trophy match. I did manage to get interviews with some of the stars (Calzaghe, Gethin Jones, Hartson etc) but was knocked back by Robbie. The reason?
606.
Robbie was very pleasant but this is what he said (a paraphrasing of his comments, anyway).
You are the guys from 606v2 aren't you? I can't talk to you. I am not being an arse, but I am not allowed to talk to you due to the name. My bosses have told me not to get involved with you, that's why I haven't tweeted your messages.....etc
I was also told to avoid the BBC lawyer at the event!
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Hero and I discussed it at the time and agreed that maybe it is better to think about changing the name of the site. The majority of people who would have joined from 606 will have done so by now - the continued growth of the forum will not be down to 606 members but they will come through other avenues - advertising, facebook, twitter, link ups etc.
The name 606 doesn't actually mean anything to anyone not familiar with the old forum, and it could stop us growing should the BBC decide to ever re-open or actively chase us down the legal route.
Therefore, we have decided to rebrand the forum at some point in the near future to the v2sportsforum.
And this is where you guys and gals come in. We are going to have ourselves a little competition.
We need a new logo.
So although there is no prize so to speak, you may get to design our new logo and be part of our history.
If you want to submit an entry, just post it on this thread (within a spoiler tag of course) and be a part of the v2 history going forward. The logo must fit in with the current colour scheme of the site, and the Mod and Admin team will decide upon the winner. Feel free to design a logo for both "v2" and "v2sportsforum" as we may use the "v2" brand elsewhere in the future.
Thanks once again for all of your support so far - let's now all work on the next step in our growth.

Makes sense. Auntie is probably gnashing her teeth that she made such a balls-up of the original idea.

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
No need to worry about the twitter accounts yet Tooze, we'll let you know as and when that needs changing along with tweets announcing the rebrand before it happens.
The web address will change, but it will automatically direct everyone to the forum.

That is possibly the best ever promotion you could get Hobo.
The Worldwide might of the BEEB - afraid of little ol 606V2?
Brilliant.

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
Thanks for the comments guys - we have decided on the name for now and all things like twitter name changes etc will happen when we do rebrand.
I wouldnt imagine it will be immediate (as in the next few weeks anyway) - still things that need sorting at our end etc.
So its business as usual - we just need a new logo an are giving you all advance notice that it will happen in the coming months

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
Gibson is on to something there I think (in terms of the Robbie Savage thing), use that wisely in terms of marketing.

I deleted it Curry. I think they've already chosen the name. For posterior... it was 666V1.
I have a brilliant idea for the logo though man. Well it's probably shoite, but I think its good. Bless.
V2Sportsforum is a bit boring, Founders, Admins, Mods, et al. Just sayin...

I was actuallly refering to the Robbie Savage thing not the name, I suppose I didn't make it to clear though.

Think that this could become a great forum, if you can get a sports news section too maybe with interviews etc?

we do have a news section along the top nav bar
We have a archived Q&A section at the bottom of the sports section.
Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
Our thinking behind the name is that we want to brand 'v2'
'v2' gives the impression of something better, an improvement, something new, innovative.

What I mean is that it's news you've written yourself instead of from other sources. Maybe have a top story scroll across the top of the page too?
And I agree it should be v2 centred

Don't you want to wait for the BBC to pursue legal routes first? The publicity would be brilliant, you can change the name afterwards.
Happy to do the logo if you can get me a copy of photoshop, my trials ran out.

And rockets. Don't forget the rockets.
Yeah, V2 keeps an identity - already built up and established, to take forward with us. I like it. But SportsForum? Fred is better than that.
Any Marketing people out there in V2 land? If there are, do the World a favour and kill yerselves.

Wosrt. Idea. Ever.
The thing with "606" is that it doesnt really say what we do.
v2sportsforum does.
I know its part of where 90% of us came from but we need to think about the future.

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
The perception, that this site, was heading towards a pure ad-based entity, to its very own downfall. People at work, who use it most, know what I mean by this. The early perception, that this site, was aping BBC 606 to its own detriment. The perception, that it is over-moderated and will turn into a PC nightmare. Even worse than Auntie.
If and when, ye get your own website and gain autonomy - I hope all this alters.
If you want to survive, it has to be different than most other sports forums. With the people you have on board - all this is well within your collective reach.
Just don't forget the punters. They are your Life-blood.

Yeah. Hes Rocks. Responsible for at least 70% of this gigs success, imo. Punter perception wise of course.
No offence to anyone else who is grafting on it. But, its true.

Re: Announcement concerning 606v2
When we change the name we'll need a new limerick to mark the occasion. Could probably do with being bit more refined than the current 606v2 limerick:
Whilst posting on 606 version two,
I got the feeling i needed a poo.
In a hurry didn't check my spelling,
With an enormous build up welling.
The mighty outburst left the Mods all to do!

The problem with V2?:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/V-2 - A NAZI ROCKET!
http://www.v2music.com/ - A Virgin Records sub label
Either way you're going to have some hassle.
