Worst Hall of Fame Inductee?

Who would you pick? My knowledge is in no way in depth enough to know enough on them but from having some knowledge of his career i'd say Barry McGuigan.

I can imagine it's not a popular choice due to his popularity.

A lot of people seem to be split between whether Cotto would get a place if he retired now (yes in author's opinion) but he's surely done an awful lot more than McGuigan?

Jess Willard?

McGuigan was definitely a product of the times and the 'troubles' in Ireland. The IBHOF seem to reward social significance and symbolism, and McGuigan certainly had that during his career. The idea of him as some sort of peace maker was nonsensical, but still appealing.

I'd agree with Scott the Jess Willard may be a 'worse' induction though, and off the top of my head I think men such as Jack Root, Ingemar Johansson and, at a push, Len Harvey may also have less of a claim than McGuigan, too, although they are all a matter of opinion.

It does make you wonder how certain selections can be justified, given that currently the likes of Ken Overlin, Gaspar Ortega, Donald Curry and Mike McTigue haven't been inducted. Some of those omissions simply defy belief.

STC didn't Terry Marsh *ahem* allegedly shoot Frank Warren? He should've been given a bloody medal for that!!

True Baltimora, tried and acquitted for the attempted murder for Warren before himself trying to forge a career in politics. A character was Terry Marsh, although at the same time a very odd one.

In terms of guys who've actually put it on the line what about Ken Norton? His fights with Ali and Holmes were great, but he didn't an awful lot outside of that. Shavers was limited but took him out in a round. At least Willard beat a great fighter even if he was past his best.

Chris, Terry Marsh should've been charged for failing to kill Warren, not for trying to!

Stallone was inducted into the writers section not the boxers. Deserved.

Did he write the sequels? That should bar him for life.

Is Ali not a great fighter, then?

I'd agree that if it were down to me, Norton would be a million miles away from a Hall of Fame, but seeing as we have to judge it by the IBHOF's standards he's not quite as controversial a decision as a few others.

Good point but his record against Ali is 1-2. Norton suffers from his era same as Lyle.

Well Terry Marsh was an ex Royal Marine so was familiar with a variety of small arms.

Maybe he was kicked out the Marines for being a really sh*t shot.

He was indeed found not guilty .Had his wife been forced to testify then the result could have been very different
His defence used an old statute of law which states that a wife cannot be compelled to give evidence against her husband

He made some admissions to her.She made a statement to that effect.
They were still married and she couldn't be forced to testify or give evidence.

To support my claim, just found out the reason for Johnson losing to Willard in Meldrick Taylor's book. Someone else has written exerpts from it and it sounds like the worst book ever:
