Obviously the right decision - the only mistake he may have made could prove to be playing at all in the first place. I hope he can recuperate and get it right for next January when he's got a slam to contend in and some points to defend.

Yup, too much tennis and not enough rest. He should ask himself why the others in the top 4 take a break and skip tournaments and potential titles not to mention the $$$s.

The irony is if he slides back to no 4 as he went on this point accumulation to end the year in the top 3 as he kept going on about finishing ahead of Fed.

I have observed Murray in the last two years. He has changed his body a lot, put on muscle, got heavier. His natural build is leaner, used to look like Nole, obviously achieved the look through a lot of work and training but is now paying the price, there's only so much a body can take before it starts cracking. He needs to watch himself, esp those legs.
