Night fishing
Chaps,
About to embark on a night trip with my bro most likely for carp or trout in the coming weeks- bloody cold I know!! Anyway is there are any real difference between night and day fishing and there anything we should be doing differently to the day time to ensure some good hauls?
Will post the results up here if we get lucky...even if I look a pleb with a head torch on!!!

Re: Night fishing
Cant help you on the trout as no expert (plenty here that are)
What sort of water is it you are planning on fishing ie river, lake etc?
In my own experience I will not night fish in any weather unless I have a twin skinned bivvy/tent, had too many nights with the condensation freezing on single skinned bivvys, and consider the extra money i spent on a good one well worth it.
Will you be using bite alarms or good old fashioned lights and bells?

Re: Night fishing
Shall be in a lake probably with carp in it.
We have the equipment and that borrowed from a friend! I think we'd be going old school on it with the lights and bell. The biggest thing we caught was about 6lbs nothing huge but I think dawn/dusk should lead to better catch!

Re: Night fishing
A lot depends on conditions, bait used, location etc.
What bait are you using, out of interest?

Re: Night fishing
We have used boyles (spelling) and my bro is a fan of sweetcorn and spam! Not sure if this is the ideal bait for said target- might have to do some research before we go!
We are night fishing in the same place we go during the day!

Re: Night fishing
Boilies.
They're always a good shout (worth flavouring them as well before you go). Sweetcorn is my other favourite.
I generally hair-rig boilies if I'm fishing with those, find that to be an effective method.
With regard to location, I meant more as in which part of the lake you are fishing. Which features are you aiming for, etc. Quite often with specimen carp fishing (though I don't actually do it myself) people spend days even weeks pre-baiting an area, and trying to get an idea of the paths the carp take (they often stick to the same route around when looking for food). Of course, after a week or so of pre-baiting an area there is a very good chance you'll have success there.

Re: Night fishing
The carp should this time of the year be slowing down,so precision will help.
I wouldnt throw too much bait in, small baits something like a pva bag or method feeder.
I love using stuff like luncheon meat and corns, they will catch fish all times of the year,I know a chap that dips his meat in salt and swears by it.
can honestly say I dont think ive used boillies more then half a dozen times, so cant help you there
